I always say that I'm going to quit drinking after a rough weekend. I always come back, though

me 3 soberness ftw!

Only bad thing about it is all of my friends like to socially drink and I won't even partake in that ~ of course they are also cool with it , but like to joke about it once in a while

Yep, after a bad hangover I always say I'm going to quit. But I always seem to come back for another round.

I quit drinking for the summer in an effort to help lose some weight. Thankfully all my friends smoke back home (I don't) so there was no real reason for me to go out and get drunk. When I get back to college though I know I'm going to be out drinking and partying as usual, but until then no booze. I figure because of the 4 month break and the loss of weight I should have the tolerance of a 13 year old girl once I go back

Anyway, my only real advice is to just go cold turkey. As long as you don't have a dependency of some sort it should be no problem. When you are going out however, completely different ball game and if your friends are anything like mine (the college ones that is) then you'll have to be on you toes all night to keep the alcohol out of blood stream. If the peer pressure gets to be too much tell them that you are the DD for the night, that usually shuts them up.

You guys should at least try it once. I mean, it's not like taking heroin once or acid. One beer will not kill you, and you can go about being sober for the rest of your lives.

OP, chill on the booze. If anything limit yourself to X amount of beers/drinks per week. If you can't do that, then just give it up. You can return later on when you feel more comfortable.

Usually when you are leaving your offering to the porcelain god. With the prayer, 'Lord, let me survive this and I'll never do it again.'

I drink, lots. What I don't do, so far and god willing won't do, is drink so much that I lose control or black out.

OP, take a break. Impose a time limit and if you can't see it through, find help that will allow you to see it through.

There are plenty of people who go sober by themselves, but there are more who find that having someone to talk to who's been through what they're going through, helps them to persevere.

All I can say is, it was the right thing for me. Drinking in moderation was possible, but way too much trouble.
I quit 17 years ago and have not regretted it. I would suggest you try it out for a while.

i've quit heavy drinking for the most part.

i still drink a few beers when hanging out with friends and maybe a glass of wine when eating dinner with the gf, but i don't drink alot.

clubs/bars are a thing of the past for me too.

i feel like a old man at the age of 24.

I haven't stopped completely, but I definitely have it under control now, and I will NEVER get behind the wheel of a car with ANY drinks in me ever again.

If you think you might have a problem, then it's time to quit. Pour out what you have, and don't buy anymore. Don't let friends bring over more. You said that you drink when you go out; don't go out. Or go to places that don't serve alcohol. It's much easier to maintain control when you remove temptation.

Good luck.

does it count if i never started? i hate alcohol. i tried it, but i just don't like it. it may be hard to give it up, but it is no less dangerous then any other drug. plus, you waste a lot of money on it.

Everything in moderation.

Nothing like a good glass of red with dinner, or an ice cold sparkling ale to wash down a barbie on a hot day , or a crisp gin martini with a green olive on a warm summers evening

When I was 23 (27 now) I quit cold turkey smoking cigs and drinking.

For over a year I didn't have a single drink.

Now I'll have a beer here and there for a celebration or event but thats pretty much it.

I don't miss it at all.

I used to easily spend $100 a night going out to bars at my peak and that's just not good financially or on my liver.
