I use my >>| key on my keyboard for next. I am not going to reactivate the window and click random or next every time I want to change songs.
MPG123 (mpglib), and you can get MAD if you want (I can't ABX any difference, so have stuck w/ ,pglib).Originally posted by: AndyHui
What MP3 decoder does Foobar use? MAD?

Cant change songs with keyboard unless the window is activated. I can use my |<< >>| keys on my logitech keyboard to switch songs in Winamp, not in Foobar.
Takes a long time to load a directory of songs. Took 10 seconds foobar vs. almost instant in winamp.
When on Random, clicking next doesnt go to another Random song.
that's right about how I feel after having tried Foobar.

Winamp jumped the shark a long time ago.
especially with all the older versions easily availible.
Er, not unless you don't use the playlist. With Foobar2000, the main player window will not get in the way of the playlist. Far less real estate, as about half of the Winamp main window's height is all that you need for everything. You can bring it down to less, if you want.Originally posted by: Winchester

You haven't looked very far. You can make custom keyboard shortcuts quite easily. By default, I don't think there are any global shortcuts (nor should there be). Select the action in the lower pane, hit the key, and then click add.Cant change songs with keyboard unless the window is activated. Winamp usually does not read the song's metadata immediately, while FB2K does (I do wish there were a quick search plugin). Of course next does not go to the next random song, it's NEXT. That's why there is a random play button (>|/<|), and when defining keybaord shortcuts, there is a next/random option just for that use. Also, I'd recommend getting foo_shuffle.Takes a long time to load a directory of songs. Took 10 seconds foobar vs. almost instant in winamp.

Buggy? It never crashed for me and I'm using it ALOT.
2.foobar isn't.Bloaty? Well guess what, it is slow if you have 6000+ songs right at your finger tip
3.About a second using the mouse, much faster than typing in what I want. How long does it take you in Winamp to find a song from an artist?
4.I disagree, as do many others. Whether you like it or not is your opinion and I won't tread on that, but I'll admit I'm curious why you feel people shouldn't be able to make that decision on their own & install it only if they want to, and have it reset their file associations only if they want (rather than have it do so automatically even when asked not to).Quicktime is also better than Windows Media player. Your point was?

Been using winamp since the late 1.xx days for audio....iTunes just repulses me. Too controlling. Foobar sounds decent but winamp makes me happy, so I stick with it.
I still primarily use WMP for video though, I actually like using a seperate program for video and audio since it does not disturb my current paused song when I watch clips.
Zoomplayer does a good job, though .Originally posted by: Jero

the only thing wmp is useful for is wmv files. And that is because it is hard to get a codec for it in winmap.

So far. WMVs of both recent lipsync'ing problems play, and WMP is not associated with anything.Originally posted by: Jero

I just noticed the same thing happening in foobar. The center channel is muted.Originally posted by: dawks

How bout the 5.1 Surround setting?
I've dug through all the settings I can find and I can't get this thing to pick up all the channels.
I'm running 5.08.
I googled it and found that 2.91 needed an ACR? plugin to support surround.
Plugins -> Output -> DirectSound -> Configure -> (Choose your soundcard) -> (Select Hardware Accleration).
I only get sound from 4.1 of my speakers though. The center channel is muted. Its the same in iTunes or WMP though too.
Already done.Originally posted by: Nik

You need to set windows to play back in 5.1
Open the sound menu from the control panel and explore.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Thanks Gurck.Originally posted by: Gurck
Center channel (and really the rears) shouldn't work for music playback, that's as intended. The whole reason for the two (stereo) channels that almost all music formats use is for the soundstage.
As a matter of fact, yes, I'm sure. None of the colors matched up, so I had to use the lierature from my motherboard and the literature from the speakers to cross reference the speakers. Took all day. When I got everything working on my desk, I marked all the wires and routed them according to their position. I have a utility that plays a static loop. It goes all around you fading from one speaker to another. It's very obvious when you have a speaker out of place.Originally posted by: Gurck
You sure you have the speakers plugged into the proper jacks? This is a bit embarassing, but it took me a few days to get it right when setting up my 7.1 system The manual said one thing, the software another, and neither matched the simpler and more apparent color coding hehe. Go Creative...

Can I index my library automatically with foobar?
Playlist -> Add Directory
BTW anyone with a high quality speaker/headphone setup and a good sound card should try the kernel streaming option, if you haven't already. Details are in this thread over at head-fi. The thread is on installing a specific sound card, the Chaintech AV710, so ignore the parts detailing driver configuration and pointing foobar to output to a specific card.
