Hi, I am conducting some experiments in my lab and need a simple but engaging game with two button control ( i can have the subjects do a left or right but not combinations of the two) for example tetris needs 4 buttons i.e. left, right, down, rotate. I would prefer to use some thing with a very basic graphics interface as the system is running some pretty intense computations in the background.

thanks !

Those old car games where the car could only go left or right and had to avoid running into other cars and road debris as it scolled by. Or a side action fighter that only goes up and down as other fighters and possibly "power ups" scroll by.

Thanks for the responses . I would prefer Left - Right controls as the subjects are making a left or right hand movement. The response time is pretty slow actually. May be I should give some more details. We are trying to build a brain computer interface. We use the subjects brain waves to control the game. So we ask them to make a right or left movement and based on brain activity thats read with a magnetoencephalograph we estimate whether the subject made a left or right movement and then control the game. So all of this is very CPU intensive. So a simple game that has very slow response time is needed. I would also prefer to talk to the game with activeX, but that sno biggie. If i have the source I may translate it to matlab.

Tetris needs 3 buttons. Don't need a down.

What kind of game uses only 2 buttons? It would have to be a game where you only move left and right, and perform no other actions.

Left, right, down and rotate. Breakout sounds like it fits the bill perfectly.

Some type of pinball game would work - one button for each flipper. The plunger would be the tricky part to get rid of though.

pong seems like a good bet. Just rotate the monitor if you can't get the orientation of the game to change on the screen.

your criteria pretty much eliminates even the most simplistic games.

With the exceptions being pong, breakout, and Circus Atari.

Nearly every Atari 2600 uses UDLR and 1 button

donkey kong... U D L R Jump
pitfall... U D L R Jump
Air/sea... U D L R Shoot
Combat... U D L R shoot
Stampede... U D L R Lasso
pac man... U D L R
frogger... U D L R

Original (non super) Mario Brothers is 3 buttons L R Jump
space invaders is 3 buttons L R Shoot

Super Mario has a duck (Down), speed run (B button), and shoot (fireballs, also B button) as well.

Ahem... Original Mario... Atari 2600 style. no mushrooms, no fire flowers.
Just Mario, 5 enemies, and his pow block.
