Any people here like Luby's?

Found this coupon posted on another forum I visit. Supposedly some Luby's have stopped accepting it, but maybe if you call and complain to corporate they will accept it.

I could really go for some liver and onions, fried okra, and mashed potatoes.

Coupon is $5 off any purchase. It does seem to good to be true. It was originally on Luby's website, but they quickly took it off.

Funny how after all these years that name still makes me think of one of the first, and worst mass shootings in the US... and what led to the CCW revolution.

I sometimes wonder why Lubys didn't change their name after that. Their name brings up images of that shooting before I even think of it being a business.

yeah i remember that as a kid.
I was in 3rd grade when that went down, it stuck out to me at that time, b/c we'd go eat at Luby's. not at the one in Killeen, but it left an impression on me.

It is curious they never 'rebranded' like Ryder did after the OKC bombing, for example.

I use to love eating at Luby's and ate there once every couple weeks as a young kid. I've never really associated it with the massacre probably because I didn't know about it as a young kid. I live in Texas too and still associate Luby's with old people and pretty good food.

I can understand that. I never lived in Texas and I have never eaten at a Lubys, so my impression of them would be vastly different than yours..

when the pappas became the controlling interest in luby's they started improving the quality of the ingredients, using fresh vegetables instead of canned, for instance.

well, the old people liked their canned green beans and complained.

so now some nights they have canned, and some nights they have fresh.

look at the dead list...lots of old people.

Food is probably more good cheap food than really good food.
