Simple question. If you own one, which version and how does it perform? Standard tasks like web browising/video watching and also gaming of course.

Reason i'm asking is because if BD dosen't look to be worth my money i might just go with the Phenom II's on account of me being poor. Thanks

Check sig, rig ='s ownage. Video editing and compression, gaming, can't find a reason to upgrade yet but I'll be jumping on a 990fx board for dual gtx460's pretty soon. I'd imagine some variant of BD might end up being half way decent so I'll see about a CPU upgrade down the line.

I've got a Phenom II X4 910 at the stock 2.6Ghz and it's great. I don't really use the machine much (took the components out of an HP machine I got for free, bought a new mobo and put it back together) but it's a pretty good folder. Anything nowadays should have enough power for web browsing and watching videos.

Phenom II 955 BE @ 4.0 ghz

The Black Edition ones overclock great and they were amazing for its time. There's no reason for me to upgrade, but getting a Phenom II right now isn't really the smart way to go. Intel Sandy Bridge i3s are more powerful and are around the same price. I may be wrong.

I have the 1055T. At the stock speed (2.8ghz --> 3.3ghz Turbo) it works great. With 8gb of ram and an SSD, it pretty much never gets that laggy bogged down feeling.

Can't really tell the difference with it OCed to 3.3ghz (4ghz Turbo), but the benchmarks go faster and my energy bill goes up a little

Gaming-wise, I have a Radeon 5650, and I haven't had any trouble playing anything, including SC II. Though I game @ 1400x900 and like it, so YMMV significantly there.

I also have an HDTV with an Athlon II X4 620 (2.6ghz) and I'm pretty happy with the performance. It is a bit sluggish, but a lot of that is probably the 5900RPM low-power hard drive that I have installed (and only 3gb of RAM). Overall I'm pretty happy with it, less sluggish then the cable box they want me to pay $5 bucks a month for...

What are you doing? And budget? At around $200 bucks the 2500K is hard to not recommend at this point, especially for gaming. The X6 is great for VMs and if you are like me and/or need to have 10 ~ 15 programs running at the same time, but it isn't nearly as competitive vs. the i5s as it was back when it was first released.

While true for gaming probably, they are still only a dual core.

X6 in my main rig, Athlon II X4 in a secondary, and my old X4 940 as a server. All are good solid builds, with no trouble from any of them. I've also build 4 cheap systems(light gaming, photo manipulation, and one for video encoding) based on K10.5 chips for family and friends and they have no complaints.

Phenom II 555 unlocked to quad. Overkill for everything I do, including gaming and casual video editing. Won't upgrade the CPU in the foreseeable future. I also have a X3 705e, and Athlon X2 4850e, both great chips, the first one going into a future HTPC.

X6 1055t & a Intel 2400.

The X6 is my Virtual machine server. It performs very well and in many task beat my 2400.

I have one of the early PhII's, a 940 in an AM2+ board with DDR2. While the Intel stuff was fantastic, I can't complain as this was a nice upgrade for me as an AM2+ owner. I don't always play the latest games, recently I've been playing Neverwinter Nights 2, I play Heroes of Might and Magic (not demanding), Dead Island cranked, The Witcher 2, etc. No real problems, it runs everything smoothly to my eyes. I also have CF'd 5870's, so I can usually crank the setting pretty well.

For everyday use, web browsing, movies, Office use, etc. it's plenty fast. For those types of tasks you won't likely notice much difference between a $80 CPU and a $1000 CPU.

My Q9400 is slower than PII x4s in general and my system games fine. It's slow as crap in video re-encodes, but i rarely use it for that and general video conversions I use GPU acceleration so its fast.

Haven't felt the need to upgrade the CPU yet.

If you are poor, you can save on the CPU (dont get less than quad cores though) and use that savings to get a better GPU, it's always going to give you a better system overall.

I have 1050 T I can easily OC to 3.5 Gig on Air.
I am running at Stock Speed with Cool and Quiet at 1.24 VCore
I am matching with GA 890 3 UD H MB.
One odd thing I have notice; It is little bit more snappier or Feel Quick in Win 7 compare to in XP.
I do use Virtual Feature too.
I have no complaint; It was a UPgrade from X2 550

My first gen phenom is still kicking but in everyday tasks. Apps load instantly etc. The only instance where you'll run into problems with a Phenom ll is if you render/encode a lot of video on a professional scale and things of that nature.

I personally like my X6 1055T. It's been running at 3.8GHz at 1.375v since I bought it at launch and it has come in handy for video encoding especially. And I definitely liked the fact that it was a drop in for my AM2+ motherboard with DDR2, rather than me having to buy a new board and new ram.

I've had both Athlon II x4 and (currently) a Phenom II x4 2.8 GHz. They were both pretty good for the money, but sometime next year I'll definitely go with a BD or whatever Intel CPU becomes the "new i5".

Athlon II 250 here. It's time to upgrade even it's still adequate for 3d modeling in 3dsmax ( not rendering ) and indy game developing ( for now ). However, it's seriously lacking in console emulators ( sandy is king on this field, waiting for bd to show it's colors ).
