I've got an Athlon 2 x4 620, but I've overclocked and unlocked it to be functionally identical to an x4 955. I have no complaints. Might be about time to upgrade my video card, though.
so what i've read here has confirmed my assumptions, thanks guys. looks like AMD is fine for what i need it to do, and as long as i don't try to encode a direct rip of god creating the universe i should be fine.
Simple question. If you own one, which version and how does it perform? Standard tasks like web browising/video watching and also gaming of course.
Reason i'm asking is because if BD dosen't look to be worth my money i might just go with the Phenom II's on account of me being poor. Thanks
i have a 965BE running 4.4 ghz
What kind of volts are you using to get it to 4.4? And the i3 sandy bridge performs better than phenoms in gaming and you'll notice no difference for browsing the web and watching videos.

may i ask what you are coming from?
2006: core2Q 4 * 2.8ghz on 65nm
2010: core i5m 2 * 2.4ghz on 32 nm
i've never used amd at all, (except for a friend's terribad laptop) so this thread has been great.
You're not going to notice much difference from c2q to phenom. The C2Q has greater IPC and if you can overclock it, it will reach phenom II levels.
Definitely add ram. 2gb isn't enough for anything more than Basic usage these daysi have a sexy heatsink on my C2Q, so should i just upgrade the ram to 4 gigs and keep it around? right now it's got only 2, and it drags its feet
