Not talking about PREVIEWS or speculation about it... I'm talking about REVIEWS of maybe some pre-production samples or something like that. All the Intel guys are getting excited about it just like the AMD guys are excited about the Athlon-64.
I don't hear much bad talk about the Prescott... lots people are saying the Athlon-64 will be unimpressive... but I'm not hearing that about the Prescott. Is there some facts that show it won't be a flop like the origional P4 core was?

In the transition to the P4 from the P3, Intel made some poor judgements. They moved to a new architecture that was hurt by a smaller L2 cache and didn't have quite enough bandwidth. In moving to the Prescott core, they are not making a move to an unfamiliar architecture, so they can make a reasonable guess about the results of their changes. The process is shrinking to .09u, the L2 cache is being increased to 1MB, plenty of bandwidth is available from an 800MHz FSB, Prescott Instruction Set is being added, Hyperthreading is being improved, and strained silicon will be implemented. I don't see that they are making any mistakes. Peace.

JS said it all. The Prescott chip is gonna have alot more bandwidth, not to mention a way better hyper threading layout. I really dont see AMD surpassing or Intel at all this time around. The Athlon-64 looks fairly weak to me at this point. As for the Prescott, i wish i had the patients to wait for it, but i already got a 2.6c running at 3.11. Couldnt be any happier.

I wonder about that all the time.....For the power users I can say I enjoy all these speed jumps but for average joes most 1ghz cpus handle all their needs just fine....

I think the prescott like many have stated is easier to assume will be faster with its enhancements. we have seen in the past from 256 to 512l2 cache it made a nice increase with the p4. The HT enhancements are more yet to be seen but many still don't quite know how to really show this in test or even review it....Kinda like just a bonus...

I think the A64 is more of the wildcard cause the architecture has changed drastically, also the fact we have been looking at the opteron as the source of our assummed A64 performance when it is likely as stated the A64 will only have SCDDR controller (maybe board can override this) and less l2 cache....I think the A64 will be like the first p4's. Kinda lame out of the gate in terms of overall speed and increase in performance versus last Barton chip, but with integration into 64bit oses and application as well as ramping of speed quickly and this thing will take off the line and maybe let intel sees its taillights for a few occasions.

The Prescott will never sell well in the UK, who wants a fat english politican in your computer?

I dont know it packs a punch, aimed squarely at the less well off

Seriously the main reason we have seen no prescott previews is due to the manufactuting process not being ready

I HIGHLY doubt that the manufacturing process isn't ready. This is Intel we're talking about, they're always ahead of the game when it comes to that. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Intel was already churning out Prescott CPUs and stock-piling them getting ready for the release date.

The more likely reason why we haven't seen any reviews yet is because Intel either hasn't released any samples yet, or the people that have received samples already are keeping quiet until the NDA is up.

I have heard from a reliable source that not only do they have several working chips of the prescott but that back in early part of the year they had many working chips of the p4c design at speeds in the 3.4 to 3.6ghz range. Why intel didn't push these chips out is unknown, but I trust their marketing gurus know what they are doing....

Intel will likely not release any of these for previews until around when the A64 is released...maybe steal some of the a64 thunder seems like a good move!!!
