Grocery store had everything. So much toilet paper and paper towels that were sitting in the aisle stacked up

It's only an extra 5 minutes for me, and the Lacey one has diesel

I'm getting ready to buy a portable generator. I'll probably drive the extra 30 minutes to Warrenton...save the sales tax...and get (slightly) cheaper gasoline.

I haven't done the OR sales tax dodge yet, but I'm sure I will when the time is ripe.

I was mining for a bit then got out of it when I realized mining was taxable and I did not really want to deal with that complexity as you need to do all the legwork yourself. No papers to just give an accountant and have them figure it out. How is it in the states is it easier or even taxable? Here there's all sorts of weird rules like you need to keep logs of each transaction, then pay taxes on the "fair market value" of each coin as it is mined. It falls under capital gains and not just income, so it makes things more complicated than simply claiming a simple dollar amount. At least that's how I understand it, the CRA site is not exactly detailed in how it works other than saying you go to jail if you mess up.

I sometimes think of getting back into it especially now that I have a homestead property. There is something kind of appealing about the idea of hiding some mining rigs in the middle of the bush passively making a bit of coin lol. Old bitcoin ASICs are pretty cheap on Ebay. If a bitcoin ASIC is in the middle of the bush and no one is there to hear it, is it still noisy?
**This isn't tax advice** but in the US it should be pretty straight forward. Any time you receive a payout in crypto you would track the amount and price of that crypto at that time. That is taxable income and needs to be reported on your tax return. If you sell any crypto at any time, if it had appreciated in value that is a capital gain and needs to be reported. There are services online that you can point at a crypto wallet and it generates you a rough '1099' type form that can be imported into your tax software, but if you limit your number of payouts to something like once per month it would be easy enough to just keep track of in a spreadsheet.

I have no idea about how it's handled in Canada though.

Yeah I think it's something like that here too, it's the capital gains part that's more complicated. But then there's also income, so you're sort of paying twice. I think you pay again for each transaction too. Ex: if you trade back and forth, you're paying tax each time. So it can get complicated if you can't automate it.

A package I ordered from Asia was said to have arrived in the USA (according to USPS tracking) on August 18. I never got it. Eventually the seller refunded me and I ordered the same item from a different (presumably) Asian seller a few weeks ago. This was all via Ebay. I don't know the status of Asian ordered merch through Ebay, I figure probably some of it is subject to the supply chain snafus afoot. I figure order anyway if the price is right and I'm in no hurry. Other than that, I can't recall being directly impacted by the supply chain issues we're having now other than the PRICE HIKES.

No Slim Jims for at least the past month. Someone cleaned out the packages at my grocery store and they haven't been replaced.

I'm on a low carb diet right now and when I go low carb my main snack is a Slim Jim and a slice of cheese. Its annoying none are available.

Its not a joke, I tell you.

For me, Olympia/Tumwater/Lacey are ~1.5-2 hours. Warrenton is about 2 1/2 hours. It's a nicer drive too...nearly no traffic for most of it.

Haven't really noticed any issues here on a day to day basis. Grocery stores look in great shape, same with Costco. Restaurants seem to be in good shape too.

I have been avoiding online shopping since finishing my Christmas shopping a couple weeks ago and am trying not to shop for anything but necessities for a couple months so can't say on that front. Have too much stuff.

I buy half gallons of the Stonyfield or Horizon organic whole milk - price has stayed the same around here since before Covid, $4.99 for a half gallon while one charges $5.99 for the grass-fed organic, but that is the same as pre-covid. I don't drink a lot of milk, a cup of tea a day and occasionally a bowl of cereal, so it's not expensive for me.

Amazon is running out of small boxes. OR the poor bastards working at Amazon have just given up.
I ordered a 3 inch vinyl sticker for my car window (Dont Panic!).
It shipped in a tiny envelope, stuffed in a large envelope, flopped into a 36 by 12 by 10 carboard box and put on a truck.

When I see shit like this, then I see Jeff Bezos is literally abusing his employees at work, and then I see Amazon is the wealthiest retailer on earth, I have to wonder what the fuck is going on.
Good news is I got a nice big cardboard box for about 4 dollars. And a free sticker.
