Any reason not to get a droid x?

So I'm planning on using a phone upgrade I have with Verizon. I can get the Droid X for 120 dollars certified pre-owned, which seems like a reasonable price to me. I don't really follow phones so I don't know if there's any reason to wait for a better phone (not interested in iPhones though) or anything.

Also, would it be worth getting the extended battery Verizon sells with it?

IMO the Droid X is the best Android phone out right now. Doesn't have any major bugs, is fast, and has the best battery life of any Android phone. Blur sucks but I'd root my phone anyways.

I went in and compared the X to the Samsung Fascinate and ended up getting the samsung. The X was just a bit too big for me, I like to carry my phone in my pocket and not all my pockets are big enough for the X.

BTW, the GPS is fine and Bing is easily avoided.
(before anyone else chimes in that the fascinate sucks)

Best buy has it brand new for $150 right now. And yes, they can do your upgrade there.

I beg to differ on the GPS issue. Many people are still reporting that 20-30 seconds is required for a location lock even after the latest updates. That may be acceptable to some, but all other non-Samsung phones are locking almost instantaneously. A road warrior friend of mine just returned his Fascinate for this exact issue, and the fact that the long-press search function is still carrier locked to Bing...

I have had an X for a month. No major problems. It is big and a pain to carry but I can use the keyboard. It fits into my shirt pockets and does not fall out. Default search is Google.

I was more trying to inquire about stuff that might be on the horizon that I should know about. For what's out right now, I'm pretty set on the droid x (even more so after the replies I got), but as I said I don't follow phones so I wasn't sure if like the droid x2 (just an example name) is coming out next week or something.

If you're always going to worry about what's next, you'll never get anything. There's always going to be bigger and better phones coming out.

There's really nothing super new or different coming out in the near future, the manufacturers are putting a lot of energy into tablets right now, the X is a solid phone.

I was on the fence about Motorola, but after tinkering with a Droid I, I'm very impressed, Moto has gone from the trash heap to a respectable manufacturer...

The #1 reason to not get a Driod X; if you are willing to wait 3 to 6 months is LTE (if you are in one of the areas that verizon intends to 'lightup' early. I'm actually not a smartphone user (yet) but I intend to buy something in the next 2 to 6 months either with sprint or verizon. Sort of waiting to see how the 'pads' play out over the net few months as I mights kipt he smart phones and go that route.

Reason to get the DX over my galaxy s

1. better battery
2. HDMI
3. Flash for camera
4. 2.2

Reason I chose to stay with my galaxy and not the DX

1. Too damn heavy
2. screen is meh
3. 4.3" on DX looks too e-peenish

Its a damn good gadget but just a tad too big in all aspects.

I love my X. I had a Nexus One, then I went to the EVO, and then the X this year. The X is by far the best one (although the N1 was really great too). The battery life is amazing (especially with the official extended battery). It can give me two full days of good usage.

The video "scenes" for the camcorder are especially useful since they use the phones three mics, so recording a concert actually sounds normal and not all distorted. The outdoor scene makes it so there is virtually no wind noise. Build quality is fantastic, no issues with touchscreen or GPS or anything with the hardware. The camera isn't amazing, but passable.

Blur is pretty much the only downside (it sucks ass), but now that there are AOSP roms out there that removes Blur completely (I use ApeX's), the phone is great.

Screen too small.

EVO 4G is the best Android phone out right now. Screensize is everything.
And the phone isn't physically much larger than the iphone, but it fits in my pants pocket great and is faster than an iphone 4g in terms of snappiness. Ordered the extended battery which should be here today or tomorrow, but after using the standard one, its very manageable and not horrible like many people say.

Huh?

From http://www.htc.com/us/products/evo-sprint#tech-specs: 4.3-inch WVGA resolution Capacitive Multi-touch Screen

From http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x-review: The Droid X's screen is 4.3 inches of liquid crystal display under Gorilla Glass, at 854 pixels high by 480 pixels wide.

They have the same size screen, just slightly different resolutions. Or are you saying the Droid X's screen is too small compared to the phone's overall dimensions?

No, what i was saying was I didn't have a fucking clue. I thought the Droid X was 3.7 inches, not 4.3. My mistake.

if you read up on new mobile phone devices you might end up waiting for some new kick ass phones coming out real soon otherwise i'll say i like my DX but haven't compared it with much on the same tier/level

Yeah eventually you have to buy something. Unless you are rich and can afford a new phone + service every couple of months theres no way you can have all the cool phones you want.
I got the Droid right when it came out cuz it seemed to me that Android was finally mature and worth jumping in to.
Short while later they came out with the Droid 2 and Droid X. Theres no way to keep up.
Just get something you think will make you happy. And only go with 1 year contracts.

It was nearly 7 months, in all fairness.

Definitely go with 1yr contracts, or contractless if possible though. I'd love to go contract-less, but if I do and I end up getting another Verizon phone, do I get a discount on my plan or no?

The huge sum of money taken off for a two year is the main reason I can look to get a good phone : ( The difference between one year and two year when I briefly checked was like 200 dollars and a lot of the discount on the year one was a rebate as opposed to all instant with the 2 year.

you dont want dx, verizon is going to get iphone in jan and you know that is what you really want. quit lying to yourself. android is the poor mans iphone. once iphone is on verizon android will practically disappear:

gingerbread is on the horizon as well and once it is out they will upgrade the hardware in a big way, youre not going to want to be stuck with one of the current droids, none of which are designed for gingerbread even if they will run it. it will be like running vista on a pentium 2, does that sound fun?

For me, my next phone will likely be either the EVO or the Droid X. I haven't seen any new phones coming out in the near future that have a 4.3" screen on a carrier I'd consider (T-mobile? fvck that..)

I'm leaning toward the EVO because I prefer a physical button-less screen. It also feels better in my hand than the Droid X.
