Any reason not to get a wireless keyboard and mouse?

I am considering going wireless, so i can browse the net and possibly game and do some other stuff from the couch while displaying the image on my TV. Have the ranges on these things gotten bigger then 6 feet yet? What are the good ones to look for? I heard the Logitech MX700, I think, was a top quality wireless mouse, but don't know much about the keyboards. Thanks

Have the Logitech set at work. The mouse is kinda heavy, it's the ball mouse version, but it's nice. Keyboard is as nice as the Microsoft one's imo. Have the change the batteries about every year and half. That's being used 5 days a week at least for 8+hours. The range with the mouse I know is at least 6 ft.

My wireless keyboard (won from the giveaway) seems to be able to track further than my friend's mx700. His mouse stopped working about 9-10 feet out, whereas mine was ~13 feet. Either way, that's plenty distance The keyboard doesn't have a problem with response time, it's just that it's slow when it comes to "queued" up commands, such as typing a very long sentence very quickly.

I neither am a big time gamer (as far as FPSes) not do I have wireless, but it is my understanding that generally speaking, most wireless mice are not the best for playing FPS type games. I think the MX700 was rated pretty good for games by Maximum PC though, so of course mice may well be getting better for heavy duty game playing. I guess if it's light gameing, or more browsing etc, there really is no reason not to go wireless.

I can vouch for the mx700. No matter how hard i tried to make it skip, i could not. I think that is amazing in itself.

MX 700 and Intellimouse 3.0 (and the bluetooth) are supposed to work well. I've been able to use my logitech wireless keyboard from over 6 feet away with np as well (batteries still haven't gone out surprisingly).

that was true for the first gen wireless, but not so anymore with logitech's MX series (the send/recieve time has been upped, it will send the data a lot faster and a lot more often now). i have the mx700, works wonderfully. yes, its a lil heavier, but you can remove the weight in it if you wish, but after a bit, you will like the heavy feeling more so.
as far as surfing on the TV, you do realize that text on a TV is horrible? if you watch like TechTV, they will us plasma and other big screen TVs to display stuff, but they also have $1000's plus in equipment to make it look that well. i believe the ati all-in-wonder does a 'decent" job. just fyi.

EDIT: i just tested the MX700, i got a good 12', if not 15' in range.

I have a Logitech Cordless Keyboard, one of the older ones, and a Cordless Microsoft Inteli Mouse Explorer Optical Mouse. As far as the keyboard goes I can't remember the last time I changed the batteries in mine and it still works just as good as the day I bought it. I don't see any lag or anything with games. As far as the range, I'm thinking 6ft is the norm for that one but that is pleanty for me. I never goes to far from my desk, but I finally get rid of one less cord behind my desk.

As far as the mouse goes, it uses batteries faster than anything I've ever seen. LOL I'm changing the batteries every 2 to 3 weeks it seems. Make sure if you do go cordless mouse you get 2 sets of rechargable batteries and a recharger, one set to use and one set to always keep charged when you need to change. As far as using it for games, it does take a little getting use to. Whether that is because it's opitical or cordless or both I don't know. I for one play alot of Battlefield 1942 and I've gotten pretty good sniping with it. Like I said, once you use it for a while and play with the speed some you will like it. One note about how I have mine set up. I'm using medium acceleration and I have the speed set a little more than half way, this is in the software setup for the mouse. As far as my games go I have the speed set about half, sometimes a little less.

Get the Logitech set, have it and it works great. I got the MS RF set for my mom and it sometimes has connectivity problems. DO NOT get the MS Bluetooth set. Got the mouse for Christmas and it's a POS:| Not only does it have connectivity problems at times, it is slow and laggy. It feels like it's wireless. The Logitech never feels that way.

We have had a Intelimouse for over 2 years, changed batteries maybe 4 times. I think gaming has the most impact on batt life. It has been very reliable and never needs cleaned!

I've used a blutooth mouse about 25ft away from the receiver. I am planning on adding a bluetooth keyboard to tht system alter this week
