Any reason to use Chrome over FF?

Just formatted my laptop after letting my gf abuse the poor thing over the past few months and I was just installing programs and was wondering if I should try something besides FF / ABP.

It's all up to you. I like how Chrome is faster and more minimal but it doesn't have all the add-ons that Firefox does.

Speed, looks, personal preference. I'm still a die hard FF user but I could see switching to Chrome in a few more versions. I love FFs extensive add-ons so that's something they would have to do something about to get me to switch. If you don't care at all about add-ons then the choice is much closer.

I like the fact that Chrome looks like something from 2010 where as Firefox looks like something from the Win98 days.

Other than that, I prefer Firefox. It's fast enough on my laptop (2.1 GHz Pentium Dual Core) and on my desktop (3.2 GHz Ph-II). Main reasons I prefer it being how it separate search results from browser history, displays a little icon next to each entry in the history list for quick identification, and a few must-have addons that are not available for any other browser.

Pros of Google Chrome:

* Synchronized bookmarks. I know that firefox has this as an add-on, but I like knowing it won't break with an update, is stable, "just works", and also my bookmarks shows up in google docs.

* Better use of real estate. More of the page shows up because Chrome has eliminated the bottom status bar and file menu.

* Doesn't have this weird issue where a flash video will start lagging one second out of ever 10. This shows up after leaving Firefox open for awhile. This issue also affects typing; if I am typing a long message I'll discover parts are missing where Firefox momentarily froze. The fix is to just close and reload Firefox, but it's still annoying. Started in 3.5 but hasn't been fixed in the most recent Firefox yet.

* You can drag a tab outside the current window to open it in a separate window, and it keeps the same page open without reloading the page. Very nice if you are watching a video, and want to have it display separately on your second monitor without having to reload it. This also works in reverse; drag a window to a second instance, and it will seamlessly show up as a new tab on the other window without reloading. Supposedly Firefox will support this soon.

* Omnibar (combining the url and search bars into one). File this under the "why didn't anyone think of this before". Makes total sense.

Cons of Google Chrome:

* No dropdown list in the omnibar that you can click with your mouse without entering text. I was in the habit of using this to remember recent sites I had visited in Firefox without going to history. However, it didn't take long to get over this, and in fact it is not really a con anymore because I am now fine without it.

* No RSS feeds in bookmarks. This one I really miss. I like being able to go to an RSS folder in bookmarks and quickly seeing if anything new has been posted in my subscribed feeds. In Chrome the best you can do is subscribe to feeds in Google Reader, but I find this to be a hassle and often now forget to check my feeds for updates.

* Not as many add-ons. I miss the form text-saver add-on (in case you get logged out before you submit a form) and a fully functional greasemonkey. I don't mind not having something like adblock since I realize websites need me to see their ads in order to survive.

* No firebug. Google Chrome dev tools are pretty decent however and make a fair substitute.

ive used chrome on my old job.

It sucked!

buggy as hell. It never stayed open for hours. Always seems to get stuck on more then 4 pages.

Use opera. Fast browser nice skins easy to use and adjust. Not many bugs u will encounter. 10 pages + without getting stuck. Its just easier to use then any of the others.

but its your own preference. I didnt like the way chrome looks nor did i like any of the skins and the buttons were al wrong no logical setup.

I use Chrome exclusively on my netbook, but thats all. Since Netflix Instant Watch isn't supported in Chrome, last I checked, theres no point in having more than 1 browser open at a time. Would prefer the homepage to not just be based upon browsing history but be able to be locked, like opera. And an option to automatically clear browsing history like FF. Chrome is alright, if you don't need the features of other browsers though.

Netflix works just fine in Chrome. I agree with locking the links on the homepage though. That's been my one complaint since day one.

If you're running some heavy applications and you're deep into your virtual memory, the performance difference between Chrome and IE/FF really starts to shine. At least it does for me. I do miss Tubestop and the dropdown history, though.

I prefer Chrome. I was never a heavy extension user, just adblock and a couple other basic ones. Chrome is faster and has enough extensions to satisfy me.

What I don't understand is why they can't just add some of the features to Chrome that a lot of you are missing. For example, how hard could it be to add a drop down history list?

You spelled 1998 wrong. Chrome looks like the AOL browser.

Seriously, the only advantage Chrome has is speed, but that's because it has 1/3 the functionality of FF. Once it gets up to feature parity with FF let's see how well it performs.

Chrome works better on my MacBook Pro than Firefox. I hate Safari.

I use chrome because it's faster than safari and firefox, extensions are easy to write, and it looks great.

Now the next step is to sell your laptop and buy a Macbook. That way you can use Safari in its true environment, and not have to worry about nonsense like Firefox and chrome. Everyone knows this.

Except the fact that everyone (but you, apparently) knows that these days more and more of OSX users have converted to Chrome (and Firefox before that) because they perform better than Safari. Everyone knows that everyone (but you) knows this.

Liking Chrome so far, got sick of FF crashing/slowing and Youtube videos lagging/not playing sound all the time.

Only complaint.. I wish Google search suggestions dropped down as you typed in text like with FF's search box. Anyone know how to get this?
