Single Player:
Half Life: Source
Half Life 2
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas

Multiplayer:
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead / Left 4 Dead 2

I'm sure you will get a chorus of BF3, MW2, Counterstrike: Source, etc. as well but I'm just listing the FPS's I most enjoyed since Quake 1.

Nice rig! Yeah Half Life is great for the story / gameplay. With your setup, you should give Crysis (the first one) a spin to see what that GPU is capable of.

Half Life 2; I wouldn't bother playing Half Life on that rig except for nostalgia.

Metro 2033 is another good looking shooter, but can be very hard.

If that rig is simply because you are an enthusiast and you don't need games to be ultra graphical intensive, and you are interested in multiplayer... maybe give Tribes Ascend a chance.

I would be wary of Fallout3 if you are looking for a straight run and gun type shooter game. FO3 is rpg with shooter elements; and it's best played with the VATS system. (Think turn-based action) but it's really a great game and I'm a shooter person myself.

I agree with the Half Life suggestions but they are starting to show their age now. Get them for bargains.

I'll add FarCry to the list. And the Portal series for another "not-really-shooter-but-kinda".

Grab BF3 to get into the multiplayer craze or the COD's for single player.

If you like great looking games try Syndicate, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, Resident Evil 5, Mass Effect 2/3 .... and BF3 for online play.

Mass Effect is technically not a first person shooter but I liked ME1 and haven't played ME2 or 3 yet.

Also, Syndicate? You mean the 1993 version or something else? The latest Syndicate is nothing like the original and has poor reviews.

Another vote for metro 2033. Also, check out cinematic mod for Half Life 2 if you end up playing it.

FEAR, only the first one, is one of my all time favorites.

The latest Serious Sam (I think Seriois Sam 3) has very similar gameplay to Doom 2 / Duke Nukem 3D. It is similar to Quake too, but it has a lot more enemies at one time than Quake had.

As for more modern Gameplay shooters, Max Payne 1 and 2 are pretty much the best shooters to be released since Quake. Prey was good, as was Half Life 2. I haven't played any Call of Duty game, so I don't know if any of them have been any good.

I almost forgot. STALKER: Shadow of Chernoble is a great Shooter. Best AI of any FPS, which helps draw you in.

Fallout 3 is more like an in-depth shooter than an RPG. I highly recommend to fans of both.

Serious Sam HD is freaking awesome. Has all the action you could ever want, and more. Painkiller is good too.

Since there's so much to choose from I'd reccomend downloading steam and watching for sales for the games you're interested in. If you're only looking for first person shooters right now I'd reccomend:

Cheap games ($5-$10 on sale, around $20 retail):

Orange box (Contains Half-Life 2, Episodes 1 and 2, Portal)
Bioshock 1/2
Borderlands
Crysis 1 (not available on steam)
Left for Dead 2 (Don't bother with the first one, almost all of the maps from that one were ported over to the second)
Metro 2033 (The game is just ok but will give your graphics card a work out).

Average price games ($30 -$40 retail)

Crysis 2
Battlefield 3 (another game to give your card a workout)

There's lot of other great games in different genres (especially rpg's) so let us know if you're interested in any of them.

Aliens vs Predator (now re-released as AVP Classic 2000) is a stand-out game and no newer game does things quite the same. Graphics have gotten dated though. I don't recommend using save or load if you play this, it's designed to be played without.

The first FEAR plays really well and looks fantastic for its age. Some people feel it gets boring due to too similar environments, but I never noticed that. Shooting, grenading and kicking dudes to death is just too fun.

I don't see how a view angle changes anything, you're still walking around killing people but alright.

And yes the latest syndicate, great visuals and absolutely violent as hell.

You got that one backwards, it's Crysis 2 you can't get on Steam.

I'd throw the first Dead Space on the list to try...there's something missing from the experience if you haven't played the first, IMO.

Borderlands was a lot of fun and is cheap now on Steam -- get the full package with all of the DLC.

It's often called "Diablo with guns" because it's a shooter with tens of thousands of different guns as loot drops, with similar trash, uncommon, rare loot drops.
