Any Recommendations on a Good & Quiet DVD-ROM Drive

I just got a Pioneer DVR-108 16x DVD Burner and I wanted to get a matching DVD-ROM drive so I can do disc to disc copies, etc. I currently have a Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM drive (LTD-163) and it kinda sux. Its pretty loud and is slow at ripping.

I was over at Newegg and I was looking at these drives:

Sony 16X DVD-ROM

Samsung 16X DVD-ROM

ASUS 16X DVD-ROM

The DVD-ROM drive has to be quiet and fast. I'm staying away from the Lite-ONs since many people complain their drives are loud.

I own one of the Samsung drives and it was very quiet.

I own the Asus DVD-E616P2 not the DVD-E616P1 but it's dead silent for a DVD rom drive esp compared to my old failed Lite-on LTD163D. aslo has excellent media reading abilities.

i was in the same boat you were. i bought the pioneer 108 and also a sony 52x-dvd-rom combo for cd burns. also went with the sony because i read it was pretty quiet. (can't comment on how quiet it really is because items are in transit)

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll probably get the Asus 16x DVD or the Sony 16X DVD from newegg.

most Sony is not made by Sony..I'd go either Samsung or LG (have an LG GCC4480B for 1.5 yrs now..still going and nicely quiet as well..ymmv )

Thanks, I was over at cdfreaks.com and they said the same thing. The sony DVD-ROM drives these days are rebagged Lite-ons. I'm getting that Asus then.

ive got a samsung combo drive and it works ok, the only thing is it doesnt seem to read burnt cds as well as the msi burner it replaced. i also got my sister the 16x samsung dvd rom and she hasnt had any complaints yet.
