Any reliable "Photo Duplicate Finder" programs ?

Hi there,

I'm sure many of you have this problem: you download the latest pictures off your flash card to a folder, but if there were older pictures already present on the card, you end up with duplicate files.

It's 2007, and with the spread of digital cameras, you'd think many firms would cater to this consumer demand. Yet, whenever I make a web search, I end up with only a couple of results, unproven software from unknown companies, and virtually no reviews.

Does anyone here use this type of software? How good is it? Tell me about your experience and give me your recommendations! Hopefully other people would benefit from this thread as well...

The two photo management programs I've used (Picasa and Lightroom) have a check box along the lines of "ignore suspected duplicates" when importing photos. That setting has worked fine for me.

Of course if you are looking for a way to find all duplicates after the fact, couldn't you just do a search of "Copy*.jpg" and delete whatever appears?

i use "duplicate file finder" for cleaning up my picture collection. it can search for duplicates using a variety of criteria (checksum being the most accurate but slowest, can also combine checksum with name, etc.) it can bog down when dealing with half a terabyte to check through or so, however.

Elfenix, which company makes your software? There are at least three programs with that name on the 'net...
drVos, the images are not named "Copy of..." - that would've been too easy!
