Any Rubik's cubers here?

I've been using the same method that my dad taught me when I was about 8, and can get as low as a minute but average around 1:45-2:00. Looking to learn a new technique now, anyone have any guides/youtube videos to learn the most efficient method possible, without having to memorize dozens of algorithms?

The idea that you can become anywhere near as efficient as possible without learning dozens of algorithms is laughable, because the algorithms are designed to make it easy for humans to solve the cube quickly. They're a one size fits all solution. The most efficient computers can solve a rubik's cube in far fewer moves than humans using the best algorithms. For example:

Anyone find out how many moves that machine took to solve it? IRRC, there was a
theory that it takes about 19 moves "Gods Algorithm" in the mid '80s.

My personal record was about 70 seconds, about 55 moves or so during the late '80s after a lot of practice.
Haven't really tried the newer methods/algorithms that came out since then. Or those with >5 layers in the coming years.
Also have the "Rubiks Revenge" and a book since 1984, took me about 70 minutes to solve that the first time using the same 3 layer method.

I phrased that incorrectly, I meant memorizing dozens of patterns and an algorithm for each.

I counted 18, where moving the middle row counted as two moves. Otherwise, 16.

I can solve the 3x3 in about 1 minute and a half, sometimes less. I solve the 2x2 in 30 seconds, the pyraminx in 1 minute and the 4x4 in 5 minutes or something. I don't use any speedcubing methods, just the old, step by step one. I'd like to learn the PLL's though, for the last part of the 3x3...

A bump update on my ongoing Rubik's cube collection.

Bought a Gan356i play (smart cube) and a Gan Robot (mechanical scrambler and solver) mid 2020. Then a Rubik's connected (smart cube) late Oct this year.
Cyclone Shaolin Popey (metallic mirror), Phantom, and Impossible, early Dec. Maybe a 5x5x5, 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 in the near future.

My 1981 3x3x3 and 1984 4x4x4 (Revenge) in front, between metallic and phantom. I also have solving books published in the early 80s.
