Skipshooters are OK up to about 500W. If you're running SSB you can push 2kW but a Wilson 1000 baseload will do better as long as it's fairly close to the center of the vehicle. Since most using good ole fashioned quarter wave whips mount them on rear bumpers they are quite directional with most of the radiated power going forward and least amounts on the sides - very similar pattern to a popular three element beam, center driven with single director/reflector arrangement, vertically polarized.
