it's odd how this one is a bigger deal than the 2017 one. Some places are even declaring a state of emergency over it. 🤦‍♂️

But knowing how packed these places are going to be, then yeah, I wouldn't want to voluntarily go there either. If I happened to live in a zone of totality then yeah I'd make sure to be setup to watch it from my back yard. I'd have booked the day off ahead of time.

The 2017 one was a huge deal but farther from you so you didn't see the hoopla. I was working on a field project just outside of the zone of totality in Idaho for the 2017 event. There was a one hundred fifty mile long traffic jam through western Idaho. The Forest Service was going nuts trying to keep eclipse watchers out of the national forest because the f'ing forest was on f'ing fire and people were driving around the roadblocks to get the best view.

This whole solar eclipse thing has become too popular and mainstream. I can no longer participate even though totality is only 50 minutes from where I live.

I'd go watch if it was niche or far less popular. I just cannot conform.
Looking at cool things that happen to the sun is too mainstream?

If anything, it's probably a mark that we as a society have become more well off that people can afford to travel and see these cool things that are relatively rare over the Continental US.

State of Emergency just is a set of laws that allows local and state governments to relax some rules and free up funding. Seems somewhat important when some areas are going to see massive influxes of people.

And it's a bigger deal because it's going to be the last one visible in a big chunk of the US until 2044.

It’s a rare astronomical event, and people who can feel joy and wonder are excited to see it the one time or maybe one out of two times they are likely to. I find it harder to understand how anyone could not understand why people want to see it.

I'm sure I will see it on TV about a million times. LOL

Seriously IF I lived in the total eclipse track I would go outside and watch it. I'm not going to travel half way across the country on the gamble that it won't be clouded over.

I was all ready to watch it in SC when it crossed over in 2017 and didn't get to see anything through the clouds. I did see it on TV.

Definitely looks like the San Antonio area is getting boned on this eclipse. Fucking Texas can't be sunny and hot the one day it would be nice for it to be. With cloud cover what it is I'll probably just drive to a place 12 miles from my house that will get a minute and a half of totality just to see it get dark. Definitely not going to my cousin's place in Boerne now since NW side of town is forecast to be really cloudy and my only real chance will be driving due west of town 100 miles where might get a 50/50 shot of seeing it but will almost certainly be stuck in traffic for hours to do it.

I can't get this video to come up, supposed to be about the eclipse and the end of the world from a biblical perspective.

Forecast here almost seems tailored in favor of viewers. Rain today, rain tonight, rain tomorrow morning, clearing by afternoon, then rain again tomorrow night.

That's what is happening to area we are going to as well. Right now the NWS is forecasting clear skies on Monday but rain before and after so I guess we will see.

Here is the current forecast for where we will be watching.

picked up 5 sets of glasses for myself and the few other dudes in the office. we will get 80% totality if the clouds stay away. This will be with the NYC skyline as our backdrop.

Its go time boys. Weather don't matter at this point it's all about me and my wife going on an adventure together......to rural Indiana. Truck is fueled up and we got a cornucopia of food and drink packed.

Yeah this is a Kroger bag full of food....don't judge me.

Our NBC station's forecast tells me to go west for a slight chance of clearing after noon, our ABC station's forecast tells me to go northwest and hope I'm in one of the few patches of clearing. Either way probably very unlikely I see the corona. Not sure which I'm going to do yet.

Gonna be the most significant moment in recent history in Buffalo that doesn't include losing to Patrick Mahomes(or major tragedies).

Saw one as a kid Spring 1970. We went outside as kids with something to shield our eyes - hopefully it was safe enough (not blind yet). Right near the edge of the Umbra I think (US - Providence, RI). 4 hour drive up north to see it tomorrow. Unfortunately, an epidural steroid injection only got rid of half my back problems - so not happening. Worth a personal view once in your life if you can do it - even the birds shut up, IIRC.
