Any Sugestions On DVD Burner??

I was looking to buy a dvd burner. Does it really make a difference having a big buffer . Sony used to have a 4X with 8MB now most of the 8X now comes only with 2MB. The one I am looking at are Plextor , TDK 880N.

burns dvds great no problems yet using memorex dvd-r


2mb buffer but i havent seen a prob with it i never had an underrun or anything using athlon 2600

trust me go with the liteon


its even faster/more stable then my friends burners:

one has digital research burner

another has sony dru-510a

other has the 4x dual format tdk drive


they all have some problems in some places that i have never came across

Very picky about DVD-R media unless you use exepensive stuff,I had one & got tired of making coasters and returned it for a pioneer.

I suggest the new Pioneer 107.

I suggest the Lite-On 411s as well. It's very solid just like their cd burners. I like the looks, stability, and unmatched performance of it. Very VERY solid drive. I HIGHLY reccomend it. Another thing to remember is that it burns CDs at 40x while most dvd burners burn CDs at only 16x. I've only used Ritek G04 media (dvd-r) with it, but it's been flawless. 0 coasters. The Ritek media is arguably one of the best and it can be had for about a $1 a peice.

Thirded by me, on Lite-On 411S.

Fast ripping, burning, cheap media reading, one in all machine.

411S is a great unit.

Make sure the firmware is up to date. It will burn very slowly using some software with older firmware. Even with the new firmware it still burns at .5x with Magix Video Deluxe 2.0. (If the red light blinks while writing, you have a firmware/software problem.)

With Nero 6 and Sonic MyDVD, it is very quick.

Haven't had a coaster with any of the +Rs I've used and they play great in the standalone DVD players I have access to.

The 40x CD burning is a great asset as well. It has burned at 40x reliably on media that my old 52x CD burner could only burn at 24x.

I haven't a problem with my plexor PX-708A, thing writes 4x media at 8x and everything. this drive rules.

rumer has it they are now making sonys drives

Does anyone has Plextor 708A or TDK AID+880 . Does it really makes a big difference having a 8X for + and -. Not getting liteon way too many problems I had when updating my firmware for my dvd rom.
