Any suggestions for a 1080p Ultrawide?

I've been agonizing over waiting to save up a few bucks to go with a 1440p gsync setup and I've finally decided I just don't want to pay the premium cost for a gsync 1440p monitor. I'd love to have the extra resolution, but I just don't want to pay what they are currently asking.

I currently have a GTX 970 and I'm now strongly considering just going with a good 1080p monitor, preferably ultrawide and maybe gysnc if I can find it for under $300-400. I do have a few questions that maybe someone can help me out with.

Will 1080p gaming on a 29" or 34" UW look pixelated? I currently game on a 50" 1080p, but I usually sit about 4-5 feet away. With a monitor I'll be gaming at about 2 feet away.

What 1080p monitor would you recommend that runs higher than 60mhz?

Thanks for any help

Do you do any productivity work at all? If so you might want to look at a higher resolution monitor for that much screen.

144hz Ultrawide 2560x1080p exist, but they are VERY expensive, $700-900+. And they are also stupidly large, over 30", which for 1080p has pretty bad PPI (34" 2560x1080 is about 80PPI, vs a 27" 2560x1440 is about 110PPI)

If you want 144hz your budget pretty much only allows for normal 1080p.

Here is the cheapest 2560x1440p 144hz freesync monitor
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS

and the cheapest G-sync
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-27-inch-Widescreen/dp/B0173PEX20

As you can see the price difference is pretty drastic. G-sync is out of your budget unless you are fine with 1920x1080.

Thanks for the links Mnewsham, I think the 1080p is the best option for me right now. Any suggestions for monitors in that resolution?

Puffnstuff, I think you're right. I probably will need to consider under 30" since I will be doing work related stuff as well with the monitor.

I have a 970 as well; are there any 1080p with ULMB? Or is ULMB really not that necessary? Secondly, right now I have 60hz 1080p TVs. I am considering the XB241H, but I was more thinking of getting one of those $149 Viewsonic Freesync monitors, but they only have 75hz. (for reference, https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2457-MHD-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B018MYTH9U)

Actually, a deeper question. Whatever 1080p I get now, I might add a 2580 X 1080 later; does that create a lot of issues with gaming and general internet use? That is, from having a multiple monitor setup with different resolutions from one monitor to the other. I won't be using Eyefinity or anything to spread anything across the different screens; so that's not a concern.

As to why I'm considering a Freesync monitor even though I have a 970, I've basically decided to stick to 1080p (or at most 2580 X1080) for the new 3-5 years. As such, I'm sure AMD's offerings can handle 1080 and I've no doubt my next upgrade will be AMD.

Since I have 3 TVs to replace over time, I was thinking I could start off with one of those cheaper 75hz Viewsonics, and if I'm not sufficiently happy with gaming performance on that, my next TV replacement down the road, I'll know already that it will need to be something better.

Lastly, if things go as I plan, I may end up with a 3 monitor setup that's got 2 24" 1080p on each side and a 29" 2580 X 1080 in the middle. Is there anything jarring to the eyes about using a setup like that? I'd use the higher resolution monitor for high-graphic emphasis games, and the best refresh rate/input lag one for online shooters.

LG has a new one coming out this month - the 34UC79. Newegg lists it as 10/11 release date. 2560x1080, 144hz, Freesync, with motion blur reduction. $699.99 though, kind of steep for a 1080p screen at that size but it's the first 34" 144hz IPS I believe. The Acer Z35 is a VA panel and suffers from some pretty bad ghosting. I would imagine the LG IPS panel would be much better in that regard.
