Looks good, but is that hard drive 7200rpm?? If it's not you may want to get a 7200rpm drive. I've got a SSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW 4500rpm hard drive and its terrible.

I would go for the athlon xp 1700. 50 bucks less (OEM don't know about retail). 1800 is only 60mhz more than the 1700. I doubt you would notice the difference.

Monitor: Gateway 15 in LCD: $399-$400 gift certificates - $100MIR= $-100 LCD monitors are of poor value and less performance than CRT monitors.
Case: Enermax EG351P: $99 Not a great choice. The Antec 840 would be better, and with an Antec PSU at that..
CPU: AMD XP 1800 retail: $225 Get OEM. Socket A processors are very easy to install.
Video card: Leadtek Geforce3 TI200: $166 Bad move. An OEM Radeon 8500 can be found for under $170, and an OEM Ti200 for less than $150.
Hard Drive: Seagate 40GB ATA 100: $89 It'd be better to get two 20GB drives and link them in RAID 0, but otherwise this is a fine drive.
Sound card: Creative Labs Audigy: $62 You can find Acoustic Edge and Santa Cruz cards for less.
DVD-drive: Lite-On LTD-163: $63 Good choice, though I prefer Pioneer.
Motherboard: Shuttle AK31A: $80 Not bad, but you may as well spend the extra money and get a Soyo Dragon+.
RAM: 2x256mb PC2100 Crucial: 2 x $38= $76 Ideal, though you may want 3x256mb or 2x512mb.
Speakers: Logitech Z-340: $36 Alright for the price.
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse-Opticle: $24 Get a Logitech. Microsoft input devices aren't as good.
Keyboard:Microsoft Internet Keyboard: $17 Get a real mechanical keyboard--they're much nicer to use. Also, you can find them in PS/2 instead of damn USB.
OS: Windows XP Pro: $150 Get Windows 2000. XP isn't as good.
Floppy drive: Sony 3.5 floppy drive: $9 Floppies are irrelevant. You can probably find a cheaper one.
Why don't you get a CD-RW? In general, shop around more. You can get things much cheaper from many places than newegg, you really should check www.pricewatch.com and www.pricegrabber.com (then check the vendors at www.resellerratings.com).

Well, I've heard good things about Neweggs customer service, and it would save on shipping. Besides, those prices were examples, I'm still going to shop around a little and wait until after the holidays to order.. Now, a few things to clear up.

1) I'm going to be using the monitor from my current Dell, a 17 in Trinitron, with this setup. I'm just going to be buying the LCD because the 500 mhz system I have now is going in my room on my desk, and since it primarily is going to be used for word processing and the internet, not a lot of gaming, I think the LCD will be good because of it's small size.

2) I have an external CD-RW drive that I'm going to use, not real fast but since I have it, I might as well use it.

3) What makes 2000 better than XP? I have heard that XP is good for setting up a network, and I want to do that to share my cable connection between my two computers.

4) I currently have a Microsoft Mouse, I like it and I'm going to continure to use one. Enough said.

5) Yes, the hard drive is 7200 rpm.

I would also downgrade the to an AthlonXP 1700 since the extra $$$ for a few more MHz isn't worth it. Besides, you may need the difference because I believe the price of DDR RAM is higher than what you quoted.

Other than that, I think your selection is great! Wish I had a grand to spend...

I couldn't beleive the price on the ram either, and apparently a bunch of other people couldn't either, because it's out of stock.

2000, in addition to being faster and more stable than XP, has similar networking protocols. It's also easier to get an illegal (free) version of it. BTW--about the hard disk, the best performing IDE drive is currently the IBM Deskstar 60GXP.
