I have been substantially un-impressed with my parents' Maxima ('98 SE). It's not all that fast, it's uncomfortable to sit in, the interior bits are made of the cheapest plastics this side of a Geo, pieces rattle and squeek, and it doesn't handle very well. In every category except acceleration it falls well short of the '88 Accord I had when I first started driving.
Nissans are decent cars, but certainly nothing special.

We have a 99 Maxima GLE and owned a 95 240SX LE (both with leather and all the options)....and my opinions are total opposites of yours.
I think the black leather interior in both cars are very nice and very high quality, much better than whats in our 99 Camry right now. I won't comment on comfort since that depends on the person, but the 240SX fit me like a glove...and the Maxima is comfy as well...but not as good as the 240SX.
There are no rattles in our Maxima...but there were a few in the 240SX in the cold (when everything is stiff).
On the other hand, our Camry has fallen short. It does rattle & squeak, the engine blew once and is now on the second engine, which in the cold vibrates the entire car....teh rear shocks are blown...the heater/defroster doesn't work very well....it definately does not feel as well-put together as our Maxima.
anyway htats besides the point of this thread.
I can comment on the 95 240SX as we did own one...and used it throughout the Canadian winter. It started up everytime, even in -30C weather and was completely driveable. The heater was very good, the steering was excellent, etc...i loved the interior in that car....very functional and well put-together. It is very safe too. My dad got into an accident in on the highway in that car totalling, but he was untouched.
