Any tips on how to make my Windows 8.1 VPN bridge more secure?

I am forced to use Windows because I am signed up with PIA for 2 years and I can't get their OpenVPN to work with pFsense with strong encryption(blowfish128cbc works but it is unsecure), I need to be able to run AES256 SHA256 RSA4096 and it just won't do it with pFsense but will with the PIA Windows client.
Any intrusion protection programs I can run on it in conjunction with PeerBlock?
What other programs have intrusion detection and prevention?
What I am doing is placing this ITX PC between the DSL modem and my network router so that all internet traffic goes through the VPN.

Would Ubuntu be a better choice(cause I know how to mess with it some) if so what software should I install to be safe? I know that there are more security minded distros out there but don't know what they are. Please help.

You seem like a prime candidate for a live CD of Puppy Linux ot Damn Small Linux. I mean, it's the only way to be sure.

No, just use Sandboxie, Voodoo Shield and Bitdefender Free. Toss in Comodo Firewall (Just the firewall!) for good measure.

Noscript can be cumbersome, but it will act like a gate before your anti-virus.

Take it a step further and use an ITX computer with two NICs and 2GB of RAM and install Sophos Firewall.

How many forums have you cross posted this in. This is what the 3rd or 4th post on it? I get that they're all slightly different and do sort of change for the forum they're posted in but it still basically the same thing 4 different times.

PIA now support AES256 over the default OpenVPN client now on certain ports[1]. Some quick googling found a guide for pfsense[2] as well, not sure if you've tried this route or not.
