Hmmmm....I wanted my phone to be compact. I don't do much in the way of emails on my phon. Sending text messages is pretty fast using the letter scriber.

I can always go back to my desk to send the emails. I don't do push email as that would be costly!

The main thing that I always had my treo on me for was so that I could have my emails with me at all times. ChatterMail (for palm) gave me push-email that would sync with any mailbox I asked it to. Unfortunately, I can't get Windows Mobile to so do.

When I bought the device I was aware that there aren't any clients that can do push-email without an exchange server, but I was still expecting pocket outlook and the other clients to be able to periodically sync with my mailboxes. I've been trying to get that to work for the last couple of hours, and I think that this thing highly dislikes the size of my mailbox (22,000 messages). It always times out on the receiving message headers screen, no matter which client I use, even if asked only to sync messages from the last 24 hours.

That's about as far as I've got with setting it up, and if I can't get mail working I'll be forced to return it.
This might work for you

http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=105531

let me know how it works

btw I have a treo 650 and love Chatter, its the best thing about owning a treo

Thanks for the link, I looked into it but it appears that they want you to forward your email to them, which would then be pushed. I can't forward emails, I need something that will work with IMAP

How much is the data only service? I've heard it's $39.99 per month(compared to $29.99 with the side kick) No included txt messages and $0.20 per minute, yet when I view the site the internet only service is $49.99.
No freaking way I'm paying 50 bucks a month + minutes and txt messages.

i believe the data plan is 29.95. i didn't sign up for it however. the phone has builtin wifi so you can go basically anywhere and surf the net.

This phone looks great! Questions:
1. How fast is this phone to use with the bluetooth GPS and software? like re calculate? does it have "voice direction"? etc? thanks
2. Can you play mp3 with this phone and using GPS software at the same time?
3. How the VCN screen work if I use the free version of VCN viewer and server?
4. Any pictures of this phone in action? like using with GPS, VCN?

Thanks!
Alex

if it wasn't for the 2-year contract with t-mobile that dropped the price to $300, i don't think i could justifty spending $500 buying it online.

Anyone know when the real PocketPC/Cell Phone hybirds will come out.
My Dell Axim I had 3 years ago ran at 300MHZ, this phone only runs at 200MHZ. You can get PDAs today that run at 624MHZ

It would be awsome if I could get any PDA I watned and through a CF or SDIO card connect through my cell carrier like you can with these "smart" phones.

When battery technology can keep up with power-hungry processors, or processors that run at high speeds with very little power usage are available.

Honestly, the MDA runs just about everything fine at 200MHz, and I just overclocked mine to 240MHz just for kicks and it seems to be snappier, with no visible impact on battery life.

What do you need to do with a PDA that requires such horsepower?

clock speed isn't everything, as seen with AMD and intel. there's a reason why manufacturers sacrafice speed, the main reason being battery life.

How fast a phone/pda is doesnt directly depends on cpu speed, mda uses a different processor (from the article) than the xscale so you cant directly compare it

loup garou: what are you oppinions on the MDA? i've had this phone for about a couple days and so far it's excellent. surfing the net with this phone comes real handy when you're on the road. for $300, i don't think i could have asked for a better phone with this many features. also, is yours unlocked and unbranded?

I've had mine since a couple days after it came out in the US. I'm loving the phone, even though it definitely has its quirks--as any smartphone is bound to.

I have unlocked mine and up till about 30 minutes ago was running the QTek test ROM with AKU2. I just loaded the IMate ROM with AKU2, and of course, QTek just released a final shipping ROM, but I'm not going to check it out until there are some reviews on XDA-Developers and HoFo.

i unlocked mine the first day i had the phone. if i bricked it, i could just exchange for a new one since it's within the 14 days grace period. however, i wished that tmobile carried the i-mate jamin model because it is even smaller than the MDA.

The size difference it marginal and the main improvement is the camera. It gets a  from me because of the lack of a keyboard.

yep, can't live without the keyboard! As a matter of fact, I'm posting this from my MDA on the bus!

Opera > *

I'd say it's safe to assume that he has a data plan for it. I can't imagine using a pocket pc phone without one.

Yeah, I have a data plan. I couldn't imagine using it without one. I am using PIE right now since loading the new IMate ROM, I didn't reload Opera Mini as it's too damn buggy at this point. Although it is crazy fast. I hope they get a polished product out fast! Oddly, after overclocking, PIE seems MUCH faster.
