To be fair, I don't think I've ever met a "vegangelical" person IRL. They're portrayed that way on TV a lot & it's easy to rally around the idea of hating on someone who is pushing their opinion on you, but most people I know with a veggie-based diet pretty much keep it to themselves because it's a personal belief. Plus, we all know that going Vegan gives you superpowers:

:awe:

Actually the first 7 responses in this thread demonstrate that works both ways. My wife does not eat pork, beef, or poultry but does eat fish and dairy products and she cooks stuff with meat in it for me all the time and I grill her veggie burgers and sausages on the grill.

I did it for just over a year back in my youth (around 19 or 20?). Was more just to test myself to see if I could actually do it and I did, then I went back to eating meat shortly thereafter.

cooking is what separated us. giving us more time to think and create over other species that spend all their time eating plants to survive.

anyway. . . the only fruit or only whatever diets are pretty ridiculous. I can see going veg or vegan if you are really committed but for the love of god don't be one of those people that goes around complaining about it and demanding everyone bow down to your superiority. and don't be a hypocrite by buying all the fake meat. If you just want veggies, eat veggies.

I eat a mix of everything. something raw, protein, and fruit and veg everyday. my baseline is around 2700 Cal. per day, i would have to eat veggies all day to get that. I can barely eat enough when i am working in the summer to keep my weight stable.

Any good recipes you'd like to share?

Sure, what are you looking for? Lots of different categories for good recipes are available, such as healthy, vegan, raw vegan, "healthier option", etc. If you want to try out a "healthier" option (healthier than say, McDonald's), I have a great chicken nugget recipe here:

http://catch42.pbworks.com/w/page/81958367/Chicken Nuggets

Gluten-free, lightly fried, and super tasty. You can use it for popcorn chicken, chicken nuggets, chicken tenderloins, and chicken cutlets (like for Chicken Parmesan). Maybe 20 minutes start to finish if you count oven pre-heat time.

I don't think you need to be really committed & I don't think that the fruit & vegan diets are ridiculous, just different from the mainstream. Bottom line is that I feel better eating veggies, and I feel even better eating only fruit. I love me some bacon and I'm not quite ready to give up meat forever, but facts are facts: eating a more whole-foods, plant-based diet makes me feel good. Can't argue with that. But it's hard to fight the 3 grills sitting on my porch too

My goal is to go raw for at least 1 week at the minimum and maybe 30 days or a little longer at the max.

Also, I do not suggest going cold-turkey when you switch. It's doable, but #1, you don't have a full menu's worth of recipes under your belt yet (the experience of preparing all those different meals & making them taste good to your palette), and #2, your body is going to switch from dairy/meat/processed foods to a high-fiber pure-plant diet, which is not going to be super fun intestinally for you if you do a quick switch (don't ask me how I know that ). I suggest more of a meal-replacement approach. Start out with something simple like a green smoothie for breakfast or an energy bar for a mid-morning snack. Here's one to try from "The Thrive Diet" by Brendan Brazier: (these are the bomb btw)

http://marymarsh.com/stress_relief/2011/09/chocolate-blueberry-energy-bars/

It uses some non-standard ingredients like flaxseed, hemp protein, sesame seeds, and (optionally) buckwheat, so not only do you need to learn how to make & manage meals, but you also have to build up your kitchen supplies & tools. This recipe uses a food processor, which is definitely a good tool to have if you're going to try vegan for awhile. And in particular, these energy bars are kind of mushy, so I keep them in the freezer wrapped in aluminum foil and then throw them in a bag on my bicycle with a freezer pack to keep them from falling apart, so you kind of have to learn the tricks of the trade for each recipe you try.

One thing that will help is writing out a meal plan based on your body. I get hungry a lot, so I've found that six smaller-sized meals works the best for keeping me full & keeping my energy up throughout the day. So like 3 meals and 3 snacks - break, lunch (ex. salad), and dinner, and then maybe a smoothie, an energy bar, and some energy bites in between those meals. Oh yeah, and energy bites are another great snack to try out - super easy, no baking required. Basically they're uncooked, round granola bars. Here's a few recipes:
