Any way to check the CPU temp on my ECSK7S5A w/o going into the bios?

Hey, I'd like to be able to monitor my cpu temp on my ecs k7s5a without having to reboot and go into the bios. Any third party software i can use that'll be accurate? Thanks.

Also What kinda temps are you guys getting? I have a 1.2gig thunderbird and it idles around 42 with the case open and 49 with the case closed.

Thanks!

Download Motherboard Monitor5 from here. It is pretty accurate. As far as your temps go, they are within limits, but a little high for my taste. I have my 1.33 running at 1.85v and mine runs 36 idle and 39 load. You are probably safe, but I would recommend some better cooling. What are you using for CPU HSF and case cooling?

I am using a Millenium Glaciator I in an Enlight 7237 case. One case fan on the front bottom, another in the back. However, the IDE cables block the flow of air from the bottom. I am thinking about installing a side blowhole across from the cpu. Any thoughts?

I'm using 2x92mm Sunons in the side of mine. One blows right into the top of my CPU cooler and the other blows right across my video card. My case temp never gets above 80F. It usually sits right around 74-76. The Glaciator should be doing a better job of cooling your CPU. Did you use thermal pad or Arctic SilverII? I've found that if you properly apply ASII, you can shave about 3C off your CPU temp. If you don't want to invest in rounded cables, you can "round" your own by using zip straps. Carefully roll the cable into a tight roll and zip strap it about every 3 inches or so. Mine worked fine until I broke down and ordered some machine rounded cables from svccompucyle.com. LMK what you do and how it works for you.

Don't forget to try CPUidle. It works great for lowering temps.

You can't compare temps with people with different motherboards, cos the socket thermistor is so inaccurate and different between brands of board.

My CPU temp on that board is 47, 1.0GHz running at 1.467GHz (147*10) at 1.85V.

Case temp is room temp, thanks to 120mm at front and top, and also 92mm over CPU.

With MBM you'll need the following temperature sensors:

CPU - SiS950/ITE8705F-3
System temp - SiS950/ITE8705F-2

Also does nothing if you're running at full load all the time, such as running Seti @ home for TeAm Anandtech

If anyone cares?

I just downloaded speed fan 4.02 from hotfiles.com

Maybe I just got lucky. But it is a pretty cool program for free. Displays both CPU and System Temps and Fan Speed. Also shows what Temp you want in the System Tray...

I also got it to do a report. But, now for some reason after I deleted it and put it in a diffrent directory it thinks I have an Assus board. Oh well, All I wanted it for was to check CPU/Temp Speeds works good for that...

If opening up your case causes a drop of 7C, I would say that case cooling is your biggest problem. What kind of fan do you have in the back? I would suggest using zip ties and trying to get those cables out of the way. I also have that enlight case and when I pulled off the front panel, my temps dropped quite a bit. I think the air holes on the front are too small. Many people have suggested drilling them out to make them bigger. I think that would help. I originally had just the intake fan on the front and the power supply fan blowing out the back. I added an 80mm Sunon medium speed to blow out the back, and my temps dropped quite a bit. I would also recommend Arctic Silver. I cleaned off my thermal pad residue with goof-off and alcohol, and used Arctic Silver 3 instead. That dropped my temps another 2-4 degrees. Good luck.
