Any way to watch TV on computer?

I went over my friend's house (lives about 70 miles from me) and he had cable connection. He had a cable modem...and through that he could watch cable TV on his computer. I recently read this article (not new)

Is there anyway that i can watch TV on my computer through my cable modem - i have an elsa geforce 2 gts video card

All you need is a video capture card, with a TV tuner..........like the ones Pinnacle make.

I've had one for several years now......don't know how I would live without it.

I have a Hauppauge tv tuner. just split the signal to your cable modem (one cable wire goes to modem, one goes to tv card)

you can search pricewatch for either "pinnacle" or "hauppauge" or search these forums and you'll find some reviews and prices.

sohcrates, which program do you use to capture video from your hauppage? the new xp driver for hauppauge doesn't support video capture so i use cyberlink's powervcr II, but it doesn't capture the audio from my hauupage.

I would also suggest the Hauppauge line of cards. However, I would like to point out a discrepancy in wording.
"He had a cable modem...and through that he could watch cable TV on his computer"

I am not aware that that is possible. Quite likely, he had a TV card and the cable split into it and the cable modem, but the way it is worded the question reads differently.

actually, i don't do any video capture..but maybe you should try using virtualdub, i hear that might work

Yup, TV Tuner PCI cards I'd recommend the ATI TV Wonder, great quality and recording capability. Drivers work 100% in XP, 2k, 9X, and ME (i've tried them all ) I personally think it looks better than the Hauppage (saw them side by side). Better color, and sharper. It's really personal preference, i've heard lotsa good things about the hauppage (lots of ppl recommend it). My 2 cents
