3-iron (yes, golf club)

I don't hit anything under a 4-iron very accurately on the golf course so I figured I'd pull the 3 outta' my bag & keep it next to me at night.

I may not hit a golf ball straight w/ it, but I'm quite sure I could easily crack a skull wide open w/ just a flick of the wrist and forearm.

Give me a chance to get a full swing in and I do believe we'd be talking about dead people.

Yes I do.

M4gery, Mossy 12ga, Glock19 with 33rd Mag

I keep the AR and the shotgun right under the bed, accessable in about a second. The handgun stays on the nightstand (that is not the only handgun I keep there, that just happens to bet he one laying there as of 5 minutes ago). The AR is loaded with 31 rounds of Hornady TAP, the shotgun is loaded with 7 rounds of #4 buckshot.

Hey Now... That Coconut Monkey is one bad mutha! I don't wanna mess with him... he doesn't NEED hands to kick yo' ass!

I have a Beretta CX4 with a Surefire flashlight attachment and a cat in my bedroom. I'm personally more scared of the cat than the gun, since the cat has a bad habit of pouncing on me while I'm sleeping

I always have my GUN with me in bed.

---
This is my weapon.
This is my gun.
This is for killing.
This is for fun.
---

Kind of like a two drum feed, single barrell, multiple-pump shotgun.

It is nice having three large dogs that are light sleepers. No reason to keep a weapon right near the bed or somewhere too accessible as the dogs not only give you plenty of warning they also would scare most perpetrators off and definitely detain them if they chose to enter the house. I have witnessed my lazy Redbone my excellent compatriot Hound jump to the top of the fence in the back yard, grab a possum, and snap it's spine in two with one bite....leaving it limp on the ground by the time he gets all four feet back on the lawn. I can't imagine what he could do to someone's arm.

With kids around I would be very reluctant to keep a loaded firearm anywhere in the open.

Not with home invasions, specifically...but my brother should get a gun and CCW permit. He's been carjacked and mugged on separate occaisions. He saw it coming both times too.

That or he needs to move the hell outta Detroit....which will never happen.

If kids are in the house, then the gun gets locked and stashed.

Katana. I'd give myself 50/50 vs a handgun at a few meters range in the dark, or much more if I see the intruder before he sees me, especially since I know the house and he does not.

baseball bat

and a big dog patrolling the house

Nice one - that way you can guarentee that even if you get to one weapon source, there will still be another left for the intruder...

I've been involved in two shootings. Once at my home, firing at someone trying to break in. I know lots of people that have used firearms in self defense.

I have a chihuahua that barks at any sound after dark and military nightstick next to my bed. With the dog in the house, I'll never be caught by surprise.

Psycho...

Even from a purely practical point of view that's way over the top - if someone broke into your house they'd be falling over weapons the whole way, what makes you think they wouldn't pick one up?

Er...I assume he is talking about the bedroom.

Unless said person knows exactly where mine are he isn't going to find them.

Well I got a pair of toe clippers on the nightstand, I'm pretty sure I could make someone cry by cutting one of their fingernails too short. Then there's a bag of golf clubs about ten feet from my bed.

I have a swiss army knife in my bedroom somewhere, that's about it. Failing that, I could club someone with my TV remote... or just beat the piss out of them, I'm a pretty big person. But I'm in an affluent, sparsely populated area, so it doesn't worry me.
