Any WWII/arcade shooters around?

I'm not sure arcade is the correct term, but I'm looking for an online shooter set in WWII like the way the old Medal of Honor and first Call of Duty used to be like.

I think the uncomplicated nature of having limited weapons and movement choices was more appealing to me then the newer shooters like Battlefield and Call of Duty.

The smaller maps were nice too.

Do any games exist that are born of the same vein?

Enemy Front is the most recent in that vein to come to mind. I can't give you much input on it, I own it but haven't played it much as it was a total buggy mess when it first came out and I quickly forgot about it. I don't know if it was patched up to a suitable state or not since release but it won't cost you much to find out, I think it's less than five bucks on Steam at the moment.

The two best WWII shooters still around are IMHO, Red Orchestra 2 and Day of Defeat:Source. Day of Defeat is a classic arcade WWII shooter and still has a decent dedicated population, even though it released in around 2005 if I remember right. Red Orchestra 2 is only a few years old and still has a very active community. It's less arcadey, but also isn't a straight up simulation either.

Heroes & General play similar to BF2/BF1942. There are a ton of badges and equipment upgrades however individually the have minimal impact. The maps are large but again similar to BF2 choke points. WW2 setting and with some patience it is possible to be a F2P player however realistically you're going to spend $10-20

Things I like:
Very team focused, infantry, airborn and tanks need to work together
Control point can be difficult to hold
Ammo costs in game earned silver or paid for gold for everything you have to aim
Its possible to run out of ammo
You can run everywhere
Travel time on foot can be very long jeeps & trucks are required
Friendly fire
Plenty of different tanks, trucks, jeeps
Not perfectly balanced some tanks & guns are simply better but nothing is great at everything

Stuff I don't like:
Possible to get into a match that's 95% done
Sucky teams can be irritating
Adequate amount of maps but needs more

I'm still waiting for someone to remake CoD1, MoH:AA, etc. in a modern engine with modern graphics, etc.

I'd buy them. I think there is a market for classic remakes (Beamdog is proving it with the Baldurs Gate games....and the remake of Half Life 1 looks appealing).

Red Orchestra 2 is a pretty solid game. I think Day of Defeat Source is still fairly active too, been playing that game since pre-1.0 back in 97-98.

Not arcade, but ARMA 2's Invasion 1944 feels the most authentic other than RO2. The best WW2 Arcade shooter IMO is Call of Duty 3 (no pc and it's very dead). Call of Duty World at War is alright.

Heroes and Generals is your best bet.

I had my eye on that one before. From the recent Steam feedback though it sounds like online is dead

Wow I can't believe those 2 are still around! I remember them being pretty hardcore and it sounds like from the hilarious feedback that it still is.

Still it's pretty damn cheap for RO so I'm gonna give it a try.

Same here! I was hoping the MoH reboot a few years ago would go back to its roots.

i have seen videos of FPS players who claim Soldier Front 2 Stalingrad is amongst the best shooters available. so .. it shouldn't be bad.

So would I.

COD1 and MOH:AA were great.

I really enjoy WW2 shooters. even modern shooters wouldn't be so bad if they weren't all online play.
