I was searching Amazon collection and it seems that comparable diamonds are cheaper on Amazon than Bluenile. Anybody have any experience buying diamonds from Amazon?
I found this comment on a blog, but I don't know how reliable it is. Besides its from 2005.

comparing amazon rings to bluenile is like comparing walmart to a somewhat decent jewelry store.

I wouldn't recommend neither.

Does that mean that you would recommend one?

I bought a great ring on Amazon. No problems, and rock came as advertised, top notch.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a ring at Amazon.com but you have to live within your means. And if an Amazon ring is the best ring you can afford, then that's the ring you go with. However, whatever you do, just opt for cut, clarity and color over carat.

Have you checked Overstock.com? If you're going to buy via a cheaper, online merchant, I recommend buying through them over Amazon. They actually have some really nice diamonds. I bought some diamond stud earrings on there a few months ago and was blown away when I received them. I had them appraised at 40% over what I paid for them. Much better than what I was expecting to receive. And they have a HUGE selection of engagement rings. Just something to consider over Amazon.com. And you can usually find a coupon code for Overstock to get an additional percentage off (low shipping charges too).

Thats just ignorant..

Buying a rock attached to metal is the retarded part. The ring that I bought came exactly as I expected it. And as far as "the best ring you can afford" comment, that is just as stupid. I could have afforded a $10,000 ring if I wanted to, but I'd ****** shoot myself afterwards for being such a moron. Even if my bank account had a billion dollars in it, I would have still bought the exact same ring.

Does that make your epenis appear bigger in the mirror to you? Why is it stupid to suggest someone buy the best ring they can afford? If the OP is looking at Amazon.com rings, then he may not be in a position to go to a fine jewelry store and pay a ton for an overpriced ring. Suggesting he live within his means is sound advice and I was implying that no matter what he buys, I'm sure his significant other will love it, even if it came from Amazon.

I could give a rats ass what you or anyone else on here thinks of me. I think its entirely stupid to buy the best ring you can afford, unless that is the ring that you truly want. Get something cheaper and spend the difference on something fun. My band was $50 on amazon, and I don't even wear it. The ring that I bought for my wife was exactly what I wanted, and I happened to be able to afford it, so I bought it.

I see a lot of people not recommending Amazon, but why? I brought up Bluenile because it has received universal praise by many sources as the placed to buy diamonds online. So my question is more about comparing Amazon with Bluenile, and not if I should buy a diamond online or not. BTW, one of the top selling gift on Amazon was a $94K pair of earrings. I guess there are a lot of ignoring people shopping on Amazon

I don't plan on spending more than $1000 on an engagement ring. And I'll probably shop around locally and then maybe haggle from there, and buy online if worse comes to worse.

hehe yeah. The ebay guy was selling those diamonds cheaply because they'd been artificially enhanced. I might head up to LA's jewelry district this weekends. Just doing some research now to now what the online prices are.

Amazon is usually just the front-end for another store. You can find a great deal on Amazon.

I would head over to DiamondTalk.com and find out a mom and pop shop that's recommended.

I have gotten diamonds twice (one from midwest gems) through DiamondTalk merchants and both appraised (real appraisal, not store app) for more as well as were commented on by almost everyone, esp the jewelers that serviced the ring locally.

They weren't huge, but they were cut ideally and had excellent color and clarity.

Well...after checking amazon some more I notice that you can check if the diamond has GIA or AGS certificate, so that invalidates the review I linked, which said most are IGI certified diamonds.

With only $1000 to spend, online will be your best bet.
