e - forward
s - strafe left
f - strafe right
d - back
a - crouch
w - prone
g - change kit
r - enter/exit (same as joystick2) vehicle
LMB - Primary fire
RMB - Secondary/Scope
Thumb 1 - reload
thumb 2 - don't use

Inverted mouse

It's all Q3: Weapons Factory mod, they had so many classes with so many ability binds that I didn't have enough keys on WASD. I had to shift over to get the extra keys. I actually like this more, as I can crouch strafe with ESDF more easily with my pinkie on A. Typing is also faster, so I can taunt people when I kill them without moving my hands off my combat keys. I'm stil trying to figure out how to replace my mouse with my joystick. I just can't snap it around behind me like I can with my mouse. When I'm FPSing (even in wow, I'm just paranoid though I'm loving the camera switch) I do a lot of 180 degree turns to look behind me. I don't think I can duplicate that with a joystick without breaking one in the process.

Used to, back for the original UT. I took a break from PC gaming until HL2, when I finally switched to WASD.

WFA is the greatest Q3 mod

Just one question

Whhyyyyy???????

You lose so many keys by confining yourself to the corner of the keyboard like that.

Honestly I couldn't tell you how it came about. It just happened one day when I was setting up the keys for Quake, and it felt natural so I went with it. Maybe it was all of the hallucinogens, or perhaps the positioning of the keyboard on the pullout.

But yeah...I won't deny a certain level of insanity in the whole process.

Like I said, it is pretty ridiculous.

However between shift, a, q, w, e, d, and c, I don't seem to run out of buttons for even the most operation demanding games.

That looks like a sweet setup, actually. I don't know if this old dog can learn new tricks, but I'm tempted.

Anyway, this is coming from a guy that used to play Unreal Tournament without a mouse. I'm talking full fledge keyboard, and I was REALLY good at it. Especially with the shock rifle, aiming was cake. The rockets however are a different story.

Hehe, nice. I remember when I played the original Doom. For a looong time I used the mouse for forward motion.

i map all actions using the 18 keys from tab-t, caps-g and lshift-b. if you're a touch typist you will like it IMHO.

Back when I had a 3 button mouse, no scroll wheel, and played Quake 2 I used Right to go forward and middle to go back. Around halflife I started using ESDF simply because it had alternate fire and ever since then I've stuck with this layout.

Thrustmaster Tacticalboard for movement and item usage in FPS games. Mouse is for aiming and shooting.

I remember when I first switched over from a controller to m+kb in quake1 a guy recommended using the rmb for +forward. I used that a while until I read about Thresh's config and I just adopted the esdf keys.

Never got the hang of using the mouse for movement. I use:

Inverted axis = YES
LMB = primary fire
RMB = jump
MMB = zoom/secondary fire
Enter = secondary fire (if diff from zoom)
UpArrow = forward
DownArrow = backward
LeftArrow = strafe left
RightArrow = strafe right
Space = use
Backspace = reload
RightCtrl = crouch
RightShift = run/walk modifier

Call me crazy, but this is essentially what I use. Going on 8 years now...

I don't see how everyone does the whole awsd crap.

Now if you go back to my very very early QuakeWorld days then I use to use keyboard only so it was the arrow keys for movement, page up & down for look up & down, etc. So using the mouse in any way is better than that. Rocket Arena is what made me change... just couldn't compete with the mousing LPBs anymore.

OMG i haven't heard the term LPB in so long! I miss the days of being an LPB

My friend showed me RMB for forward when Quake came out... and I thought he was crazy. Now I am 30 years old and find that I cannot live without it. If something needs to be rearranged, I will most likely leave my RMB alone and figure out something else. RMB for forward just feels too good for me

When I started playing, I used a joystick. Needless to say, that didn't last long.

One interesting variation I've seen of WASD is WERD.

I know a few people who use right mouse for forward.... but they have been using it forever. I would never be able to adjust to that.

There has always been a special cold spot in my heart for LPB's I was king of the HPB railgunners in quake 2 I could put a 250-450ms lead on any shot. Those were the days, when you had to check your ping before you pulled the trigeer. That's how men played FPS. By the way pros such as myself use the numpad exclusively.

I use 4562

456 = <^>
2 v
with KP+ for reload, and 7 for jump the up arrow on the arrow keys for duck, and page down for "use" beat that for freaking people out! KPEnter is run

Wow, that combination really sucks. Do you use the mouse with your left hand?
