Anybody else find it disturbing that in order to live, you must take life?

i find this a bit disturbing... no matter what, in order for most things to live, they have to take the life of something else, whether it be an animal or a plant

This statement is not true in the plant kingdom? What life does a plant "take" to grow. Plants grow from photosysthesis, air, water and nutrients.

When we eat fruit from a tree we are neither killing the tree nor its future life (unless we eat all its seeds).

And some of you really ought to seriously consider the "Breatherian" lifestyle . . . you have plenty of hot air to go around.

You know, these vegetarian people really disgust me. Why won't anyone stand up for the rights of the plant kingdom? Plants are living creatures too, and deserve our respect. Instead, while groups cheerfully and vocally protest animal experimentation and extoll the virtues of not eating meat, the quiet plight of these pastoral members of our community of life here on Planet Earth goes ignored. Why is it wrong to consume animal life, but not plant life?

Fertilizer helps too. And that just doesn't mean poop, it means decomposed plant and animal matter. Technically the plants probably didn't kill it themselvs, but there are poisonous plants and those cool Venus flytraps.

it's not just other plants or animals that you're killing. you're also killing millions of bacteria every. you're killing potential cancer cells right now (or rather they're committing suicide now). cancer cells are people too!

I'm sure if you asked the roach, he'd say that all told, he was having a pretty good time all things considered.

Myself however, i prefer being able to sit back and act like i'm the emperor of Rome, deciding which of the lobsters in the tank shall be allowed to live, and which will die horribly in a pot of boiling water in order to satisfy my hunger. And i don't even have to worry about satisfying the whims of the mob when i choose which one of the clawed warriors will get my thumbs down. Savage sounding? Perhaps, but oh so much fun (and tasty, especially when the seafood sauce has a nice dollop of horseradish mixed in).

First, it isn't "wrong" to consume animal life (outside certain people's beliefs).

Vegetarianism - depending on the person - may simply be for health reasons.

And - as I pointed out before - eating the fruit of a tree doesn't harm it in any way. Nor does eating an ear of corn "kill" the plant.
