I totally remember how I was introduced to Anandtech...

1. My church friend was like, "dude you ever played this game called Starcraft? It's after Warcraft 2!" Then he burned me a copy. Man I was 15? This takes me back - fond memories of PC gaming and talking about gaming.

2. The same dude was like, "There's a website called Anandtech Hotdeals - it's basically a crowd-sourced (such wording didn't exist back then actually) deal hunting and reporting forum.

3. I started to browse AT Hotdeals. I remember RossMan posting Honda Accord SE 2001 or 2002 hot deal of loss-leader pricing at car dealerships. Later, I similarly bought Mazda 6i 2003 (brand new model from 626) at $15,525 + tax. $500 below invoice.

4. Then I went to the depths of hell that is ATOT forums. Man we were so young and fiery. People flamed each other so hard. Trolled, fought, etc. There was so much traffic and communication.

5. I also learned salary negotiation techniques from AT. This community literally saved and made me money in tens of thousands $$.

6. Now I'm an IT project manager that buddy of mine who burned me a Starcraft is a IT SE Manager. Kids, cars, big house, hot wife = living the dream and thankful everyday.

The media and paparazzi should have indeed.

In her current condition, her fans and other interested parties should continue to support the end of her predatory conservatorship; the rest of her family is on another level of predatory and toxic, so much so I draw parallels with how Camille Claudel was committed to a mental institution.

The re-registration was when they went from the "BBS" to the original Fusetalk, in early October 1999. I was here. Luckily I think my stupidest young teen posts were also blown away in that update.
Oh, I was working around 60 hours/week, communing 12 hours a week and going to night school for an MSCS, it's a miracle if I remember anything from then . I did have time to post on ATF when I was waiting for large distributed builds to complete. I think I was spending what little time I had left on comp.arch.

I joined in 1999 but pretty much only lurked.

Then I somehow lost my password, and created a second account to PM mods. They then proceeded to delete my original account and left the newer one for some reason.

What happened in 1999? I must’ve forgotten as I was busy partying...

I was on slightly before 1999 with a different name at a different email, around when I built my first PC, and the AT forums and news articles is where I did a lot of research. Eventually drifted off from most of the tech forums, changed email addies, then just created a new username when I rejoined. I was not in P&N back then, but I do remember ATOT being so busy. Damn millenials ruined it like they ruin everything!

Ahem...

I was part of the "great purge of 2001" when all the accounts got wiped and reset. I think I joined in the late 90's, but didn't start posting actively until that day in the Deals forums where someone posted a "$50 off $50" coupon for Staples. Used the HELL out of that thing I remember I bought a Microsoft cordless phone with it...it connected to your PC and recorded voicemail to email, caller ID would appear on your monitor, and it would announce who was calling. It was awesome at the time! You could even use voice commands to make phone calls. Felt like something out of Knight Rider.

Yep. It was and guess still is a browser based game MMO where you raided ‘roids from other players and destroyed their ships.
yeah, I remember hearing about it when I was stationed in Iceland, so it would have been in the vicinity of 2002.
I went looking for it a few years later, couldnt find anything.

Glad to see its back up. I still won't join though.

I joined in 2000 just to buy and sell computer parts. Made about $17,000 from 2000 through 2005 when I quit altogether.

Starting in 2022, if you sell more than $600 worth of items through a platform like Ebay, you might get a 1099-K tax form, which means you will have to report it as misc income. If you are selling old computer parts after an upgrade, thats kind of silly since you are not making a profit if you are getting back less than you paid for an item.

So all you have left is face to face over Craigslist or FB market place.

I remember the re-registration. I'm still here, obviously.
I never heard of it before seeing this thread just now. I joined shortly before 9/11, picked up on it at my last full time job. They escorted me out of the building 2 days after 9/11 carrying my belongings in a cardboard box.

Arrived about 6 months later, the 300A overclock brought me here, to this day it stands as the best bang/buck OC, it turned an $80 part into a $550 part and those were 2000 dollars too.
