Anybody go to college a long way from home? (1600 miles)

I'm going to college 1600 miles from home. How do people usually get their stuff to and from college? I was thinking of crating all my stuff up and sending it industrial style- especially since I have loading dock access. However, I looked up prices on one company and they seem kind of high. How do most people do this when they fly?

get all your stuff there, by u-haul, hertz, shipping, etc. then rent out one of those space rental places (WV has them, I'm assuming everywhere else does) and store your stuff their until next year.

Not really an option for most of my stuff. If a bunch of people got together and got one, some stuff could stay, I guess. The computer. CRT, all my clothes and hobby stuff needs to come with me. That leaves... uh...

I drove up at the beginning of freshman year (with a van full of stuff I hardly used, save the computer and clothing.) During the summers I'd stash everything except clothes at a friend's apartment, and pick it back up after the break. When I got my own apartment, I just left it there. A couple of my friends just took clothes/computer, and bought everything else at school as needed.

do you live in a dorm? you don't need that much stuff if you live in the dorms. just ditch the stuff and buy them when you get there. sell the stuff when you leave for the year or put it in storage.

friend is in school in AZ, lives in VA, his whoel fam took like 2 weeks to drive him out there and did some site seeing

and how much sh!t do you have, i can fit almost all my stuff in 2 duffel bags and a backpack, if i had a laptop it woudl be even easier

I will be in this situation come August. Looks like I'll be taking the roadtrip route from South Florida to Ann Arbor.

TX = big dorms. There are also 13 foot ceilings, so lots of space. One of my hobbies is building combat robots and I'm hoping to continue that at school- there's a bit of support equipment required to compete, a few toolsboxes and a sterile container should hold it all. Then I have my full-size tower and a 21" CRT. I'm hoping to ditch the CRT in favor of an LCD after freshman year. After that, it's just clothes and stuff.

Can't bring the parents- my dad owns a small business ang can't just leave whenever. My mom... no.
