Well for me its senseless to get Intel since I already have a AMD system, however with a new 2400+ on the way. Its senseless for me to get a AMD64 since all AMD cpus made will be 64bit come 2005. I think my 2400+ can last me a simple year.

I plan to get an Athlon-64 when the .90 nm process is perfected, and motherboards are more overclocker friendly.

As it is, the Athlon 64's look more enticing because I'd like to cut down on the heat. Intel is screwin' the pooch on Prescott by the way it looks.

"no one is safe from the enticing performance of Athlon 64!"

It will be enticing once you have XP 64bit and at least 10-15 programs that you use now running in 64bit. I suppose what would really help is if they made a 64bit version of UT2004, HL2, and DoomIII.

There will be a 64-bit version of UT2004.

Most definently Prescott, I cant stand AMD's. Ive always had more problems with AMDs. In all my years, in all the machines i have had or worked on, Intel's have always been more reliable. Less problems, less fuss. I realize that AMD's are great processors, but I have always had great sucess with Intel, so that is what I am sticking with. Also, the performance is negligible in most applications between the top processors.

Until I see the amd64 or FX smackdown on Intel in apps I use like multimedia encoding and rendering then we will talk....Otherwise with HT on the side I see no enhancement what so ever for me to go amd route.....

The .09 process isn't going to enhance performance by itself but it will help the ramping up process for speed...So if the a64 or fx becomes the nest 1.6a northwood in ocing I coul be enticed.....

I won't be getting a new Desktop anytime soon, since its already a P4C 2.4Ghz. But I am getting a new notebook, based on the Athlon 64. That count?

If you take away all the HT, SSE2, SSE, 3DNow, 3Dnow+ crap and have both cpus running at the same speed, same memory, same bus speed, AMD would kick intel into next week but Intel has to have its memory bus speed at least twice as fast, it needs SSE and HT and above all, it has to brainwash people with all there stupid tv ads.

If this if that if ....

It does have it & it uses it so get over it,If AMD could do it they would but Intel has it & is faster,so stop your whining.
