Mine is a LG flatron which recently somehow, the screen size shrunk and I try to adjust the resolution to get it back as normal but unfortunately, the whole screen just gives a slight tick sound and "off" it goes. Then I tried rebooting my system hoping that my monitor will get back to normal but sadly the screen no longer appears.

So, i would like to seek expertise opinion whether there might simply just be a fuse or some other minor problem happening with my 17"inch almost 2 to 3 yrs old Flatron which I like very much to savalge. There's no smoke or any noticeable phenomenon other than the shrinking size of my screen resolution before it blacks out.

Pls, I really hope someone with ample experinece with such monitor can roughly tell me what might be wrong and will it be costly to repair, should the problem be just minor? otherwise, if major and needs a helluva overhaul, then it's not worth it to repair as I know, new set is simply cheaper now-adays.

Thanks for reading and pls reply.

When the monitor goes black, does the power LED Blink or go out?
If it blinks, how many times (i.e. 1-3-1, 2-2, etc..)

What model is it (1710, 1715S, etc...)?

opps sorry it's just a LG795ft+ flatscreen. BTW, the monitor led shows but simply doesn't powered up.

Thanks

It could be something as simple as a blown Capacitor(s), or any
of the 3 Voltage regulators (5-8-12V), which may also indicate
a bad Flyback Transformer (which in LG's [Goldstar] case, would
cost more than a new monitor).

Truthfully, if you are not capable of repairing the monitor yourself,
you would be better off purchasing new one.

More specifics as which items to check:

Q706, Q719, and D704 for leakiness or short
voltage regulator IC's, IC923 = 5V, IC925 = 12V, and IC304 = 8V

thanks for trying to help,

I'm not trying to repair it myself but was hoping that someone who has these experience can advise me what might roughly be the problem before I turn to those repairer whom I am afriad might con me into saying lots of un-necessary faulty items is detected.

So, as I have briefly described what happened for my monitor which just doesn't shows up now. I really appreciate lots of inputs, or what to take precaution in order not to be short changed.

This sounds strange but are there any flourescent fixtures nearby? If your shielding on your cables is poor, florescent frequencies can interfere with monitor performance.

I know it sounds freaky and I'd agree that you have a capicitor out somewhere but check that, it's free!

oh, this monitor was placed at the same location for the past few yrs already w/o meeting any other noticeable interference or etc.

So u mean might be a capacitor problem? so, would that be worth repairing it then?
