Anybody have a Tassimo or Keurig Single Brewer?

My wife and I just got back from staying in a hotel over the weekend and the room had a Keurig machine in it. It was really nice - brewed a cup in less then 3 minutes and tasted really good.

We were both opposed to getting one a couple years ago because we felt that for the cost it was more cost effective to make a full pot with a regular machine. However, we are finding that we pour out a lot of coffee that we are not using and its a pain to constantly be washing out the machine when we only are drinking a cup or two.

We still plan to keep the regular machine around for when we have company. I was thinking about getting one for Christmas.

Can anyone recommend one? I was looking at reviews on Amazon and the Keurig B60 seemed to be the most popular. I know they make reusable "k-cups" and "do it yourself" cups so thats a plus too.

I got my girlfriend one for christmas a couple years ago. She uses it daily and loves that she can make however only one cup of coffee in the morning. I think i got it at Costco for 100 bucks w/ a 50 pack of K-cups. It also has this: http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cup-R...1261662&sr=8-1

Not sure how good it works since ive never seen my gf use that reusable filter but you might enjoy it

We've got a Keurig. Outside of the microwave it's the most used appliance in our kitchen. It's perfect for people on the go and/or couples that have very different tastes in coffee.

I originally poo-poo'ed the reusable filter but after discovering how well a turkish grind worked in there I rescind my comment.

I only have a few complaints. One about the machine itself - we've got one with two cup sizes and it's just completely flaked out after a year. The "big" cup only pours small now. And sometimes if you try to make it pour a second small cup it freaks out and pours an extra tall one overfilling the glass. I don't have the receipt anymore so can't warranty it. So I've learned to deal with it, or turn it off and back on if I want a second pour from the same k-cup/filter.

Other complaint is just the cups themselves. I really feel wasteful tossing one of those out each morning. I've almost completely switched to the replaceable filter now and just go with a turkish grind of my bean of choice from a local roaster.

I think these single serve machine threads come up at least once every two weeks.

Keurig is great, alot of people here will vouch for it. You will also see responses stating french press is the best way and only way to do it and also see recommendations for decent drip coffee makers as well.

Keurig > tassimo Only reason I say that is because it seems Keurig K-cups are hitting the market everywhere nowadays

They had a Keurig at this place I used to work at. Made terrible tea, which was expected. They make sense if there's only one coffee drinker in your house. Otherwise, just get a regular coffee maker. Cheaper in the long run.

interesting, could you link your grinder? Is it a legit grinder or a blade grinder? I have a blade and it was worthless w/ all the powdery residue to use my own replaceable filter, I assumed if i had a quality grinder it may be better

Thanks for the replies guys

Costco has this one with 60 k-cups and a reusable filter for $150. I like the cups but they are expensive - so we'd probably end up just using the filter.

Also, I usually bring a big travel mug and drink it on my way to work. Will these units be able to fill it up or would I have to use the machine twice to get it full?

I've got a burr grinder that I use for my french press on the weekends. But the turkish grind I have to get done at the roaster. My burr can't get it that fine.

You'll have to go with an "extra bold" cup and do a double run with it to fill up a travel mug. They are usually 16 oz or so.

I see. On the product page it says that the machine can do 5 different sizes: 4-12oz. It also has the 60oz water reservoir so we don't have to constantly refill it.

I think this deal from Costco is the best: machine, reusable filter, 60 cups for $150 shipped

K is OK.

Not as good as a french press, but a lot less mess.

The cups are a serious enviro-bitch slap, but the single fliter cup thinger is handy (although a PITA to use and clean for a single cup).

If you are a coffee drinker (regular) it is worth it. If you are a high-volume drinker? Just get a small pot......

BTW, you do not need to turn it off and on to get it to pour more, just lift the handle partially to get it to "click" and think you put a new cup in. You will get more coffee-flavored water pouring into your cup......

I know that. But mine has a mind of it's own and likes to surprise me on the portions it pours.

Someone brought a Keurig cappuccino machine to work a few weeks ago along with all the packs to make it. I thought it sucked...probably one of the worst tasting cappuccinos I've ever had.

My wife and I both drink one cup on our way to work. Thats pretty much it. My mom and dad come over and visit on Wednesdays and they're big coffee drinkers. For that occasion I'll break out the big machine and make a full pot.

I don't drink coffee, but my wife does and someone gave us a single cup Keurig for a wedding present. She loves it.

Depends on what you want. We have a tassimo and I find the coffee superior to Keurig. But you are absolutely correct on availability and selection when it comes to Keurig. Keurig k-cups are EVERYWHERE. Tassimo pods are harder to get but I have amazon prime so it doesn't really matter to me.

Just for information, my comparison between the two is that people at work have Keurigs and I have had many cups using their machines with various different brands of k-cups.

Another benefit of Tassimo is lattes if those are your thing.

My wife and I picked up a Keurig special edition from Bed Bath and Beyond for a wedding present and it's great. We would waste a lot of coffee with our old coffee machine so the Keurig is perfect. My aunt told us to go to www.coffeegiant.com to get the K-Cups plus they have a sweet iPhone app.

+1 on the Keurig. We love it. We blast through a box of "Breakfast Blend" constantly....

Loved the Keurig at my old place.. they had the Office version of the B60? I think. Lasted well over a year without an issue before we were merged with another firm and the Keurig was raffled off.
