I can't keep my damn dog from digging under my fence and getting out and I am getting tired of trying. I have cinder blocks all around the fence and 2 foot peices of rebar jammed down through it but he alway manages to find some other place to get out. I see these fence deals for sale fairly cheap used every now and again and I am thinking about trying it. How well to these things work? Does it only shock when the collar passes the wire or can I set it so it goes off when its within like a 6-12 inches of the wire? I would like to just be able to string it around the bottem of the fence so I don't have to bury it but if it only shocks once his head passes the wire I don't think that plan would work. Once his head is under the fence I think he would keep going shock or no shock. He has been denutted so that isn't the problem :Q. I am about ready to head to lowes and buy some real electric fence equipment but I hate to spend that much money on something that would only be needed for a little while. Atleast I would hope that after he got the crap shocked out of him for a month or two he would quit trying .

I have few other ideas too but they all involve work and I don't much like work .

One of those collars would work great for you. They make a beep when the dog gets close to the wire so it knows when to stop. If they get closer it shocks them. It does the same thing if your coming from outside the loop also. There was a system for sale that you just plugged into your house, no wires, that caused a circular "safe zone" around your house and shocked EVERYWHERE outside it but not sure where you could get one of them.

Our system keep our two Rotties in fairly well till they learned they could hold thier heads high and run like hell and just get hit for a instant. It still worked fairly well even after they figured that out though. In your situation you also have actual fence to slow him down in the "kill zone" so it would work great. You can also adjust the width of the shock zone on the box in the house also. That always made our dogs think twice when they ran for the wire and all of a sudden the zone was twice as wide. Kept them on thier toes.

My great grand parents had one for their two-time-failing doggie-obedience-course chocolate lab. That lab learned REAL fast and stopped running out and getting hit on the highway. I would recommend it.

Have had an Invisible Fence for several years now to contain my two male Labs. It "bit" each one of them no more than twice, and now they stop four feet short of the fence line. By the way, the collar makes a high pitch "beep" when they get three to four feet from the fence line. I just throw them outside any time I want or they want, and they have never left the yard. They have even passed the very difficult passing "bitch in heat" test. The only thing the fence can't do is keep other dogs, and kids, out of the yard. Now that would be great!

Well this sounds perfect then. I will have to keep an eye out for another cheap used system or buy a new one here soon. Rightnow I either have to be outside with them or chain him up when I let my dogs out and I really don't like to chain dogs up.
