I had oral surgery about three weeks and for the last week or maybe a little longer I've had horrible insomnia.....I can't sleep at nite....I can only fall asleep when I get extremely exhausted usually by about 9:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. Then I will sleep until 2:00-4:00 P.M. repeat process.....

I tried staying up all nite yesterday thinking that might do the trick I finally passed out about 1:00PM or so and wokeup at 4:00 pm.....I laid down tonight and can't go to sleep....

Can't seem to shut the brain off or something (when I lay down to sleep I feel more alert then than I do setting at teh computer gahhh)....This really sucks because I've have all this time off and I'm trying to make major career/life changes right now and I'm having trouble concentrating and reading.....any kind of production in general has become a real task to accomplish.......

I hope I'm not depressed or something but, I am stressing quite abit about a job/back to school(post Bach) decisions.....

It's really pissing me off more than anything because I can't seem to really get much done and I'm not thinking clearly.

Take a sleeping pill an hour before you want to go to sleep. That sometimes helps me get back on schedule. Exercising during the day is also good, helps to make yourself physically tired.

Edit - I just reread your post and it seems like you're really stressed out. Try doing something to calm yourself down before you go to sleep. This could be a hot bath, help from a SO if you've got one *wink* or just reading something long and boring. Sometimes I use somethingawful forums or here to get me to sleep

As already suggested, exercise. Also try having a decent sized slab of meat an hour or two before you want to fall asleep, fresh roasted turkey being preferable, as the Trypdophan(sp?) in it will assist your brain in slowing to a halt.

If all else fails, sleeping pills, or an alcoholic nightcap (although you mention oral surgery, this is assuming you've healed by now, and this is also not the best option because your quality of sleep will suffer. But it will probably do the trick to get you to at least fall asleep some...)

Or try Sleepytime Extra (it's a type of tea), that always did the trick for me. Valerian root as an extreme measure, though that'd probably require a prescription.

Stop napping, i had the same problem....Also, having a ticking clock instead of a silent one seems to preoccupy my mind just enough that i forget about not being able to sleep. If you allow your mind to wander if you're not tired, forget about it.
