I don't fly because of heights, not because Billy-Bob Jihad next to me may or may not have demo in his shoe.

The airlines have done more to chase off the flying public with their fees upon fees, flight delays, and general buttheadedness than terrorists have ever dreamed.

Nope - granted I'm not flying ON 9/11 but I will be flying out tomorrow. The local news reported the airport will have "random" car searches and suggest you park in the long term parking lot and take a bus. They also suggested to arrive at the airport a little earlier than usual.

I really hadn't thought anything about the date when I booked the flight a few months back and I honestly don't see any reason to freak out just because it's been 10 years.

Any concern I would have about flying would be related to the whole mess that flying has become ... not because of the threat of terrorism. If you've flown lately ... you know what I mean.

Prior to 9/11 flying was OK but over the years we've gone from in-flight meals (for everyone) served on plates with silverware to eating greasy peanuts out of a bag to sitting next to some morbidly obese person who is oozing into my space.

I do not fear the terrorist ... I fear what we (and flying) have become.

There were no fat people on planes before 9/11?

Flew to Hawaii on 9/11 last year and the flight was packed, so apparently no one else cares.

But it wasn't teh 10th anniversary!

I wouldn't be worried. The chances of a terrorist organization planning another attack like that on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 are slim. The chances of them getting away with it are even slimmer. The chances of you being on the terrorized plane(s) are even slimmer than that. You probably have a greater chance of getting killed going outside and walking around than being killed on a flight on 9-11-11.

I'd definitely want to fly 9/11, they'll probably have seat sales given everybody is so chicken to go.

What are the odds that they pull off a 10th anniversary Encore?

I remember last year at the airport we didn't even have a minute of silence like the year prior. If someone wanted to instill fear into the public it doesn't necessarily have to be taking over the plane, or having to be inside the secure sterile area of the airport, simply planting a vehicle at the airport parking lot would achieve the same goal. Since the focus from the media, the government, and the general public nearing 9/11 is the airport and planes, they would have accomplished their goal with very little effort and planning. This type of destruction is something that nobody can prevent unless the airports all of a sudden regulate all vehicles entering the lot be inspected, which is neither feasible nor is there budget/labour in place to make it happen. Even if it were to happen, a vehicle is large enough that detailed searches just simply cannot happen to each and every one of them.

There are risks to each and every decision that we make and events that we choose to participate in. Some people just consciously choose to acknowledge this over everything else that happens in his/her life.

I have second thoughts about flying at any time. Not because of any boogieman. It's due to the blatant violation of rights, hassle, and fear mongering of the government seeking to gain more money, and extra control over the population. Airplane is my least preferred method of travel. I'd rather ride cross country on a moped than use an airplane....

You're sounding pretty paranoid there. "The government" is your boogieman. There's really no such thing. What is called "the government" is just a gigantic class of entities that belong to the class, it's not a living breathing organism with a will and a plan. There are tendencies over time, evolving patterns, new patterns, but there's no plan to effect a "violation of rights" as you put it.

Your assertion that the government is seeking to gain more money is laughable. Government is non-profit (and nowadays generally broke, or to be more accurate, deeply in debt!). If you are looking for egregious greed mongers look at corporate America, the board rooms, the places where $50,000,000 pay packages for certain highly privileged single individuals are actually created!

It isn't paranoid at all. I say "the government" because it's easier. It's a combination of governmental offices, and corporate interests that look out for each other. There's a lot of money to be made in suppressing the population, as seen by our prison system; the largest in the world. Warrantless wiretapping, suspension of habeas corpus, and illegal seizure of property. Big government will take all the control it can. Look at UK, and the EU for our future. Our constitution has retarded the erosion of our rights, but not stopped it. All it takes is fearful sheep to willingly hand them over for us to be doomed....

Edit:
Btw, the "government" absolutely is a for profit institution. Thousands of agencies creating a reason to exist, and to ensure their future employment. You come back to when you've done government work....

Ah yes, everyone knows prison guards make millions.

Warrantless wiretapping,

How do you make money on wiretapping? And if the government is corrupt and only after this mythical money, of what relevance is the "warrantless" part? A judge would just sign any warrant anyway, according to your paranoid delusions.

suspension of habeas corpus, and illegal seizure of property.

Name one state that runs a surplus off such operations.
(and please do tell how one makes money off the suspension of habeas corpus)

I have. ET2 in the US Navy. The power I had over the creation of government agencies was absolute, I tell ya! I was taxing and spending like there was no tomorrow!
POWER!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You were all pawns to me!

either that or I just fixed electronics

I was going to do a point by point refutation, but I'm not gonna bother. You have to at least try....

Never been afraid, before, or after 9/11.

This. There won't be any attacks tomorrow. They don't have to. The media is already trying to whip the country into a frenzy for them. That's the terrorist's main goal and the media is doing it for free.
