Wow I forgot about DC++! It was a neat network, but lot of the hubs required to have a few 100 GB worth of files to share, which was crazy in the early 2000's, so I could never join any of the good hubs since I only had like a 40GB drive lawls. Never used it that much.
Anyone remember WinMX? It worked sorta similarly. I was actually running a "hub" for a while.
With the centralized nature of torrents and the US government being all over that and shutting down lot of torrent sites, I wonder why real p2p is not still a thing. Kazaa was the best in it's days as it was truely decentralized. Same with edonkey and other similar programs that used protocols like the Gnutela network. It's a shame these protocols arn't in use anymore.
