Anybody here use their cheap webcams to monitor their house? Front doors, side doors, etc?

My cousin's bf has one set up in his room, he has it on when he goes out. He starts recording it onto his hd, his computer is so quiet so when he turns off his monitor nobody unexpected who goes in will know that they are being recorded. Neat idea eh? The house has been broken in before, so that's why he has it set up as such. So long as the crooks don't take the computer away he's good.

I would like to set one up in our front door where people come knocking on the doors quite frequently. So that if its the christian church fellows, I can simply pretend I'm not home Or some kid wanting to make a quick buck asking me to let them mow my lawn.

It'd be nice for folks who know their mother-in-law is at the door and your wifey ain't home, do the natural, pretend you're not home!!

So do you have one and what's the purpose of it? Just curious.

I don't know about you, but the two times my house was raided both computers were gone. Computers are realitively easy to carry especially when you have a small tower. If I were your friend I wouldn't go cheap and just setup a security system and have camaras monitering.
