Anybody know how to get around a firewall? Update: Not having much luck.

I haven't asked, but I'm not too bothered. My gut feeling is that they wont allow me to do it.

o You could get fired from your job. It's happened to others. - I'm a student.
o If a student, you could get into big trouble. Expelled maybe? - I just finished my course.
o You would get disqualified from the dnet projects and banned from participating. -A risk worth taking. Not that bad really.
o Team Anandtech could get sanctioned, or worse disqualified and banned. - Hmmm, I didn't know about this and I'm a bit concerned. Maybe I should go solo?

It doesn't controvene any laws, so I'm happy.

Sorry to be a spoilsport TripleJ,
But it does violate distributed.net's rules. I don't think they would be pleased. Nor will a lot of members of Team Anandtech, including myself.

If you insist on violating the rules, please leave Team Anandtech out of it and go solo. We cannot approve or support the install of the client on PCs that you don't have permission to do so.

Sorry, but that's one rule we must uphold. It's hard enough to get legitimate permission at work and school without the bad press that "unapproved" clients get if/when found out. (it's a virus, hacker code, etc.)

Have you tried to ask for permission? Maybe gather some information on the project, the teams list (which shows major corporations and university involvement), proof that it is a legitimate project, and some of the benefits to running the client.

There are a number of members here who have done so, and can help put together the documentation to help overcome objections.

They are good concerns you raise which also makes me concerned. If you think that this is not a good idea then I am most happy to seek an alternative. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to talk to the powers that be here. Sometimes when I talk to the people here feels like talking to a brick wall.

It would help my case if I got some first-hand knowledge from some others here. I'll start another thread on this one and get some documentation together myself.

I'm sorry for possibly putting Team AnandTech in any adverse position. I didn't think Team AnandTech was able to be sanctioned due to this. For now, I'll redirect my preferences.

did you get it to work yet, I was using it behind a firewall for a while. As long as you can use port 80 you should be ok.
