Anybody know what this type of wire plug is called?

I had a fan die in my plasma TV. I took the fan out, but it has a non-standard receptor on it.

The plug on the wires coming from the mainboard is tiny and fits all the way inside the receptor.

I need to replace this fan. Anybody know what this kind of receptor is so I can track down an adapter? I've never punched the wires out of a receptor to insert new ones. Is that a possibility? If not, what would I need to splice the wires from the new fan onto the wires with the non-standard receptor?

Looks like an intermediate connector (proprietary) between the fan and the mobo. It is a standard 3 wire fan - two wires for + and - voltage and one for speed sensing.

Trace the wire all the way to the mobo and pull it. The mobo should have a 3 pin vertical with a thin piece of plastic on one side. That is a standard mobo fan port.

Replace the fan with a standard 3 wire connector which looks like this:

The niche on top slides over the vertical piece on the mobo - it will only go 1 way.

If the mobo is non-standard, then you can salvage the connector from the bad fan by cutting the red, white and black wires with enough space to do a good splice. Then splice the wires to the red, yellow and black wires of a standard 3 wire fan.

Ooops! I forgot it was from a plasma TV. OK - in that case the only good solution is to splice the wires and put the old connector on a new fan. Just make sure that the new fan power requirements match the old one.. Splice is easy - just match the colors.

Does your plasma OEM have a parts list? Maybe you can get a replacement fan with the proper propprietary connection.

I was looking at the receptor and it doesn't have the typical three pin release holes, so, ya, it looks like a splice will be safer than trying to push the wires back out.

Thanks.
