Anybody overclocking their FSB with a Creative SB Live Value?

I've got my FSB at 143Mhz and I can't select which PCI divisor I want so I'm stuck with 1/3. This puts my PCI at 48Mhz...way above spec. Everything seems to be ok, but after playing CS for a while, my computer will lock up and the last played sound constantly repeats...which makes me think the SB Live is choking on the high FSB. Has anybody else experienced problems like this w/ SB Live value? I think I may need a better soundcard (Turtle Beach, Audigy). Anybody know a way to force the 1/4 divisor with the AK31 Rev.3? Peace out!

I have that sound card, and even though I don't overclock this system. (Really) I get what your'e stating there. It would just lock up and that sound repeating as loud as it possibly can. Maybe a updated driver will solve that? I just downloaded mine, forget where though.

Well, that's the thing...I've already got the most current W2k driver from the Creative website. I'm also running with 4-in-1 ver. 4.34 so I'm not too worried about a conflict between the soundcard and the southbridge. I think my PSU is hitting it's limits, so it could be a bad PSU. I'll try that first then replace the soundcard if necessary.

I've always found the classic SBLive Value to be extremely tolerant of overclocked FSB speeds, much more so then the Audigy or many other Sound Cards in my experience.
I have an SBLive Vale in this system here running perfectly with a 44.5MHz PCI clock, which needless to say is well beyond the capabilities of most PCI devices.

That said, I still wouldnt be shocked if it didnt like a 48MHz PCI clock... hell most devices don't even like a 40MHz PCI clock, and you've gone well beyond that.

No doubt! I wish there was a way that I could manually set the PCI divisor like I used to do with my KT7-R. I'll pick up a better PSU this week and see if that will fix the problem. If not, I may need to overclock to 166Mhz just to get the 1/4 divisor to kick in and bring me down to 41Mhz:Q

This is a newbie-ish question, but what are PCI divisors? I'll be gettin my Athlon XP 1600, Epox 8kha+, with an SB Live Value and I might do some slight FSB OC'ing. How do I know what my PCI divisers are, and is it possible to change em?

<< This is a newbie-ish question, but what are PCI divisors? >>

A divisor (something like a formula) tht tells the clock generator at wht speed the PCI should be running. PCI components operates at 33 Mhz under default settings. Thus at 100 FSB, the PCI divisor is 1/3 meaning 100 times 1/3 = 33 Mhz. FSB at 133, the PCI is 1/4 meaning 133 times 1/4 = 33 Mhz.

No. The PCI divisor in control by the clock generator. It is not possible to change the divisor manually. At wht FSB do the PCI divisor start to change ? Normally, it is mentioned in the manual or in the bios.

I'm running an SBLive! Value on a ECS K7AMA with 1.4Ghz Athlon.

I've overclocked the FSB to 146Mhz (CPU@1543Mhz) and the Live! runs perfectly with Win2K and Counterstrike.

Excellent! Well, that pretty much narrows it down to my power supply or a driver issue. By the end of the week I should have it pinned down even more.
