AM3 and K8L will be compatible with AM2 motherboards........so one good reason would be upgradeablity. While all the Intel users have to upgrade the entire system to use DDR3 an AM2 user can just upgrade the CPU. They can use DDR2 and AM2 motherboards until AM3 boards and DDR3 ram prices come down. Saves time and money.

Prove that statement. I didn't read anything that said that Intel's next CPU would change sockets.
I was actually suggesting Intel would use a chipset change rather than a socket change but either way a new motherboard would be needed. So new mobo, new chip, new ram= complete system overhaul in my opinion. While AM2 users can just swap out the chip to AM3. That all has to do with Intel trying to bleed its consumers dry. Ever notice a trend? Everytime new chips come out new chipsets are required. That way Intel sells motherboards like hotcakes. Hence the reason they will not switch the memory controller to on die. Since AM3 will have a memory controller that is compatible with DDR2 and DDR3 it can be used on older chipsets.....it was my speculation about K8L being compatible with AM2 however. My bad.
Really its all up to the consumer. Get whatever you like, but dont feel bad when your $200 motherboard is obsolete in 6 months. I personally will get an AM3 chip when it comes to market and keep my AM2 motherboard and DDR2 until DDR3 is released, tested, debugged, and costs less.
