Hey all, i am talking about BRE - Barren Realms Elite and LORD - Legend of the Red Dragon. Man, what i wouldn't give to play those again, lol!!!!

Yep and like you went around killing stuff to get alot of money and when you got enough money you could buy phat weapons and in the end, you fought the red dragon that was pretty buff...lol.

I also remember that you can also break into the inn and attack someone, lol. I remember logging on and finding out i was attacked but luckily i was powerful enough to take it, lol.

Oh man do i remember those games. BRE was awesome. I think BRE, Tradewars, and Global Wars were my favorite.... i think if i boot up my 486 i probably still have some of those games up (ran a BBS for a couple of years there).

Really amusing actually... although they were all text base, they were so damn entertaining. I've always wanted a Tradewars adaptation to today's technology.

Ohh my god! If it weren't for this thread I would have never remembered playing those! It was so long ago and I was so young I had to sit there with my mom. Lord esp. though, I can't remember details but its there... vaguely.

Let's see...on the board I used, we had...L.O.R.D., T-L.O.R.D., Usurper, Trade Wars, VGA Planets, and I think that's about it...Seth able, the creator of Legend of the Red Dragon used to have a BBS and I was able to hack it and steal his *own* registration code for LORD..hehehe =)
I think I still have it somewhere on an old floppy, unless the floppy's corrupt now...memories. What kind of BBS's did you guys use/dial up on?...The majority that I used all used either MBBS or the updated Worldgroup 1 or 2..Galacticomm died when 3.12 hit..poor guys...they made the best BBS software there ever will be. I believe there's still a telnet BBS up w/ the last version of WG 3.? something and quite a few games..a long with Game Connection ( if anyone remembers that, that's where you played multiplayer doom! )..Ok, enough with my old memories..telnet to: wgwarez.com

LOL i remember studs and studdettes.

I bet if any of these website forums stuck games like those up they would still be popular (look at all the MMORPG that are out, and MUDs are still popular). I would still spend 10-15 mins a day playing my turns of Trade Wars or BRE.

I dialed up almost exclusively local BBSes. What kind of software? All kinds, and way too long ago to remember. Myself, I ran a Renegade board initially (easy to set up), then when i finally got the hang of PCBoard, ran that.

OH MY GOD!!!! Usurper?!!! hahahaha i remember that game. I also remember Trade Wars too. BRE was the best. Like the bbs i would log on to would have wars with a couple of other bbses and like that was pretty kick ass.

Haha and i also remember in LORD that you could get laid or something, lol.

I forgot what software my bbs used, was such a long time ago.

Game Connection? Haha i remember that...playing doom with a program called
SIR DOOM that you loaded in the bbs to play.

Anybody play on a local Bay Area bbs called the Game Server...in fact still remember the number...333-3533 or something like that. It was pretty tight.

Oh the memories... I loved BRE, LORD, Tradewars, and VGA Planets...

Nothing to this day has made me enjoy my computer as much as those did back when I had a 2400baud. (I later spent $200cdn on a USR 14.4, a choice I never regreted). I still have a copy of VGA Planets lying around.

The only thing that brings me back to those days (sort of) is MUDding.

Well, there are actually BRE leagues that still exist with most of the BBSs there with open telnet ports so you can play from anywhere. I used to play BRE on The Realm Of Kings, Cyberdyne Systems, and Empire BBS (All in Australia)...I checked out a few on telnet not long ago and it is still very much alive!

OMFG BRE was my first introduction to the addiction of online gaming back years ago! that game was SWEET. stileproject.com guy was trying to find a site that had it...some sites let you telnet, but telnet sucks. I had in fact thought of making a version of BRE with .asp ...

dark.. Somebody should really re-make BRE for the internet...it would be so easy to do too I just don't know how I'd get people to it. How do we telnet in?

That one was great.


There are still plenty of places you can play these old games, you just have to find places you can telnet into. Regardless of what someone posted above, telnetting isn't that bad as long as your telnet client isn't ugly.

Haha, Tele-Arena rocked. Ah, the good old days...I kinda wish they were still here...there is still a halway-decent bbs, Rinx.com that has some of those games...you people should check it out...just telnet to it in hyperterminal I'm solaris there.

You guys may want to check out bbs.ufies.org, run by a bunch of User Friendly fans. Has TW2002, LORD, etc.

Personally when I need a quick fix, I throw $20 or so at one of the many pay-per-month Worldgroup boards and play MajorMUD etc..
