Anybody see Dungeons and Dragons?

I'm going to the BIG CITY tomorrow, and I wondered if it was worth a look-see in between computer store drooling sessions . . .

I figure only hard-core D&D geeks will get a kick out of that movie. I heard it took 10 years to make. :Q

10 years to make? If you mean development time, that sounds right . . . but as far as filming I believe it only took about 9 months.

Has some fairly high-quality acting talent in it, as well - Jeremy Irons, Thora Birch.

From the single trailer I saw, it looks to be written and produced for pre-teens. Count me out.

I just saw that movie - It sucks - lot of dialogue (sissy dialogues). as for the graphics they are swwwweeeeet... but the whole movie is just plain stupid.

silverspear's right. i just saw the movie tonight in silvercity. although the dialogues were kind of dumb and aimed towards fairy audiences, i was just amazed by the special effects! very cool indeed

I watched the new trailer an hour ago, and that movie is soooo going to suck. Its going to be the most crapp movie ever this year.

If you EVER played D&D do NOT waste your money on this piece of trash. They did not follow anything that D&D ever did. The damn dwarf looks like a dwarf until you see that he is as tall as the humans in the movie. The elves were nice to humans. Come on.

The dialog was horrible. Why couldn't they have just picked up a freakin good D&D book and gone straight from it. If that was from a certain book then i want to read it because it has to be one of the worst stories I have seen(more like read myself).

I am soooooo disappointed.

I used to do a lot of gaming since moving to LA from the UK not touched
it.

This movie made it onto my "Movies that are so bad they are good" list.

The acting is terrible, the effects as everyone has commented were pretty
cool however. Some of the humour is ok. I was howling when Snails has his
second run in with Damadaar, though I wasnt supposed to be. The best line
of the movie was Jeremy Irons "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the not so talented Mr
Ridley". I wonder if there are more hidden gems in there.

long time d&d player here (well, not anymore really). went to see this movie last friday, and it was indeed Suck. a complete waste of money.

the effects were so-so.. what did you all like about them so much?? i liked the way the beholders looked/moved, but it would've been nice if we'd seen them in action.. or hell, seen them at all for more than, what, five seconds.

most of the conflict in the movie was human vs. human or dragon vs. dragon, which doesn't ring true to d&d well. and the acting was AWFUL. the "humor" guy was probably the best example of the poor acting this film has.

I'm a big D&D player. Still play every month with a group of friends.

We went and saw the movie last Saturday. It's probably a 5 or 6 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being best.

The acting was pretty poor, especially the princess. Marlon Wayans was actually pretty funny and not nearly as annoying as I expected after seeing the trailer.

Jeremy Irons was good, as was the Damadar dude. I thought they played the elf pretty well, at least the tracker chick. Although they seem like they are trying to turn them into Vulcans (no emotion).

Some of the battle sound effects were poor. An axe or sword would hit a piece of supposed steel armor and go *THUD* instead of *CLANG*.

Definitely NOT enough battles. The so called dungeon was really, really sad, as was the "maze". Clear rip-off of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought the movie was very entertaining. The plot is what you would expect from the D&D series. There may have been a few cheesy lines, but overall the movie was enjoyable--kewl special effects.

I thought it was entertaining too. It's one of those guilty pleasures type films for me -- I know it wasn't a good film but I still was entertained by it.

I was never a D&D guy. My only exposure to that type of game came from computer games like Dungeon Master for the Atari ST and Land of Lore and Balder's Gate for the PC.

I like the Elf girl (she had a Lisa Bonet quality about her) and the sorceress apprentice girl. They were very attractive. Isn't it funny how a lot of sci-fi movies have very good looking women in them?
