except the original quake/quakeworld and starsiege: tribes.
q2 was too cartoony for me.
Quake brought about online game playing, much more than doom or doom 2 ever did. It introduced rocket jumping. It introduced, to a large degree, circle strafing, much more than doom or doom 2 ever did, due to the multiplayer online aspect.
It had two official addon packs:
Quake Mission Pack 1: Scourge Of Armagon
Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution Of Eternity
and last but not least, a kickass soundtrack by Trent Reznor of NiN.
I spent many days/nights playing this, first on an AMD 586 pc, then on my neighbors Cyrix 166 with 32 mb of ram, and lastly on a p166 overclocked to 200 mhz with 64 mb of ram and a Monster 3d voodoo 1 card.
Starsiege tribes was awesome because you could play as one of 3 geared guys, light, medium or heavy, and then your choice of weapons also changed. You could fly, ski jump, and in general, just kick major ass throughout the whole game.
