I have both the tmobile and verizon note 4. Tmobile rooted with kernel and custom rom makes it an amazing phone. Verizon non rooted is garbage. It will auto update facebook, instagram, oculous etc even after "removing" them.

ooh shit i dont have instagram oculous ? or facebook installed.. just use web browser to access and works fine. i would rather not use facebook then install the app!

Just looked oculous is the VR. isnt that just gimmick right now? galaxy s6 with vr on magic mountain roller coaster few weeks ago and it was maybe Sega Saturn graphics (if even that good)

I just finished rooting, unlocking and flashing TWRP and JasmineROM on my Verizon Note 4.

The Gear VR is pretty damn great for the $100. I've run down and charged my phone 3 times in the pas 15 hours.

i added a "plugin" called Samsung SportsMode or something and it made the shutter much faster, not as fast as a proper film camera, but fast enough to take pics of moving stuff.

Thanks for the tip. I found it in the modes section of the camera near the home button and picture symbol when the camera app is open. Click on modes then scroll to the download option then grab "Sports Shot" It makes the shutter fast but disables some options to make it faster.

I might try the Open Camera and Manual Camera 3rd party apps and see how they work with the Note 4

So it was pretty straight forward to unlock and root?

Not really. You have to be on 5.0 or 5.1.1, and it only works with Verizon. It uses an exploit to change the CID to one from the Developer edition. You have to gain a temporary root, which doesn't always work, run some shell scripts from a PC, reboot a few times, repeat the steps and hope it works. Then you flash recovery from Odin a couple times, then flash SuperSU.

best phone i've ever had for the period of 3 months and then it mysteriously slowed down to a rock and is now a "like new condition" brick. the internal flash memory is defective and is known to degrade over time. seriously, fuck samsung. if you have one, i recommend selling before it gets to that point.

My days of doing this are limited now, I don't find it as fun as it used to be. My tmobile was fairly straight forward, rooted, recovery, flash rom, flash kernel.

I flashed to a kernel that lets me undervolt and underclock. To me it's the only way to keep the VR cool, else it will complain about heat.

It's the only reason I got a cheapo Verizon as backup as my tmobile with case won't fit in the VR.

As for everyone else I'd agree it would suck on a nonrooted as I have a locked bootloader verizon one, which kind of sucks. A rooted, debloated rom with knockon/knockoff feature, along with a QI wireless charger, and a nice case has made my note 4 nearly perfect. Granted it took a lot of time to get it where I wanted it.

I imagine a rooted lg g4 would be similarly priced and if you don't use the pen probably better.

Had mine over a year now and no such problems. Maybe a defective batch?

I "upgraded" from a Note 4 to an S6 on AT&T. AT&T refused to fix or replace my S6, stating "Working as intended" despite Bluetooth, performance and ram issues after the second (not 5.1) OTA four months after I bought it - so I gave it to Verizon in exchange for another Note 4. I then bought a Droid Turbo 2 and handed the Note4 down to my sister.

When the bootloader unlock popped up, I traded my DT2 to my sister for the N4 back, and here I am.

As for my GearVR heating issues, I strapped a gel cold compress to the front of it. Plays games/movies till the battery dies.

Edit: And yes, it was definitely the second OTA that broke things - BT and performance were both fine on the shipping OS and the first OTA. But, since AT&T hates everybody, they locked it down even tighter with each update and you couldn't revert to older software.

i suspect so. but you won't know if you have one until it just occurs. my phone was about a year old as well. ( picked it up second hand but it was pristine) . i recommend going over to the xda forums and see everyone with the same issue.

When the Note 6 (or 7 or whatever it is called) launches, the price of a Note 4 is likely to drop to $230 on swappa. Then my cheap a$$ just might get it.

There are already examples of Note 4s on swappa for around $230. just not the like new ones. Get an unlocked T-Mobile version. Those are most easily loaded with custom ROMs

There is a Note 4 on swappa for under $200. Crazy.... maybe when the Note 6/7 launches in 5 weeks, the price may even drop to $150. This is crazy... may as well be giving em away.

There was a refurb listed on Slickdeals yesterday (B+ grade) for $160 after a coupon was applied.
