Im not really interested in paying the full price for a new top of the line phone but I am interested in getting a phone that can take good pictures.
Im currently using a asus zenfone 2 which does fine in everyday activities but the camera is just horrendous and I actually do use the camera for social media business purposes. So overall I would like a phone that is fluid in its use and with good camera capabilities. So im curious as to what current owners think of this phone.

The camera is ok. Low light is kinda bad and the focus seems a little slow.

Everything else on the phone is perfect though.

I think a three year old phone is pushing it, regardless.

Huge camera strides have been made in the last year, maybe 2 in mobile.

The camera is pretty good as long as there is enough light. It was released when OIS wasn't that common. It will be coming up on 2 years old soon. As was mentioned previously the camera app is not as fast to open up as newer phones and low light affects the quality much more than newer phones

If you want the best default camera app for a smartphone I'd say look at the LG G4 or the LG V10 those cameras have very wide lens apertures for smartphones and you get DSL like controls that can really dial in a picture if you know how to use them.
They actually do noticeably better than the Note 4 in low light because of the camera app and their lens apertures.

If the camera is the most important consideration then decide between the V10 and G4 according to the other features and budget (LG phones have a reputation for coming down in price faster than others like Samsung iirc) imo.
Their cameras are very good and compete very well with other phones given the default camera app options. If your "new" G4 or V10 don't take good pictures out of the box return it you probably got a lemon.

If you're not familiar with the DSL options the G4 and V10 point and shoot modes are still pretty good because they are assisted by laser range finders to help with focusing. Furthermore the reviews I saw and read didn't mention slow camera app startup as a problem.

I think the Note 4 is a great camera outdoors. Lots of details, OIS, and good software.

Heck I still think the Note 4 is overall the best Android phone ever made.

Note 4 owner. Takes better pics than my wife's 1 yr old Sony. I despise just about every other thing about the phone though.

i had the zenfone 2 as well. the camera is terrible. thats ok since i only take photos with my dslr.
got a Note4 to take slomo vids. but the vid quality is nowhere near the dslr that im used to. the 4k vid is stunning though, in the right lighting. taking photo is ok too. playback looks amazing on the amoled screen!

i find the camera on my note 4 to be superb.

originally it had a slow shutter - you click shoot, and it actually takes a bit to shoot, which sux if stuff moves.
i added a "plugin" called Samsung SportsMode or something and it made the shutter much faster, not as fast as a proper film camera, but fast enough to take pics of moving stuff.

the resolution is amazing; it takes a bit to focus in when close, but it works fine at medium / long distance. you need natural light to shoot good pics, it doesnt perform well under poor light.

TLDR its not a real camera, it's a good phone-camera.

Isnt it not even a year old? Why would people not be "still using" it?

It's a two year old phone.

I messed up above by saying three. Got my mainline Galaxy and Note numbers mixed up.

Camera and display are decent.

Overall definitely the worst phone I've owned. Maybe it was the carrier variant though. Locked, bloated and laggy as all hell on Verizon no matter what I tried. Enough to make me ditch Samsung for the foreseeable future.

I have a Note 4, an LGV10 and an S7 Edge. The edge kills the others in speed, the LGV10 kills the others in options and overall quality and the Note 4, being the cheapest of the 3, takes great outdoor pics but is the slowest (camera wise) of the 3. If budget is a major concern then get the Note 4. If you can squeeze a little more $$$ get the LGV10. You can't go wrong either way. I really don't know why I havent sold of my Note 4 and LGV10. I am not going back to them after getting the S7 Edge. Nostalgia I guess.

The s7 is just way too expensive. Closer to a 1000USD compared to the note 4 at around 400. I also shoot dslr so an extra 600 towards a real lens would do me far better for photography. I just don't carry my dslr everywhere.
I kinda forgot about the LG series and both seem to be a lot closer to the note 4 pricing.
I don't game, I don't run benchmarks, I don't use my phone as a status symbol; it's used for phone calls, picture taking and using the internet. But I also don't want every app or word being typed out to have a noticeable lag to it. My ZenFone does great on this regard except for the camera being completely unusable in quality.

I would go with the Nexus 6P over the Note 4. They seem to be on sale every other week for ~$400.

I love the Note 4's camera. It's way better than my Turbo 2, which has a very good camera.

The S7/Edge, Note 5 and likely Note 7, are all better than the N4 though.

iPhone 6s defeats the Note 4 too.

Maybe it was, on AT&T the Note 4 was the best Samsung phone I owned. I jumped to the Nexus 6p after it though because at the time Samsung took out expandable memory with no 128gig option so I had no choice.

There's still a lot of things I had on the Note 4 that I miss from time to time on the 6p.

I liked the phone quite a bit. Camera was good for it's time but has been surpassed by the newer galaxy phones and I've found the 6P camera to be far better than it. It has pretty good battery life, not sure if it ever got marshmellow but if it did it would probably have really good battery life. Speed is pretty good, it felt fast when it was my main phone but after getting my 6P it felt a bit slower to me. Overall I could go back to it if I had to, it was a great phone in it's time and it still holds up reasonably well. I use mine as a media player now and it still works totally fine.

Pretty much have to get the Tmobile version, verizon and ATT are locked with tons of crap on it. Though xda said they found a way to root the VZ note 4. The tmobile one is very good with the right ROM.

They just unlocked the bootloader on the Vzn Note 4, actually. Unsure of the status of any ROMs, though.

Note 4 user here. Love it still. Camera is great in natural/outdoor lighting & for close up shots. For distance shots, mine at least, has trouble focusing. But that might just be my phone.
For every other use, it is still a beast.

Those phones are old enough and unfriendly enough to the modding community that I don't think support will be great. Keep it stock and it's just a great phone.

Tmobile note 4 user since launch. Love it. One of the last phones with removable battery and storage.

Phone is huge and gets weird in pockets at times.

No issues. I'm rooted and on different roms tho.

I have both the tmobile and verizon note 4. Tmobile rooted with kernel and custom rom makes it an amazing phone. Verizon non rooted is garbage. It will auto update facebook, instagram, oculous etc even after "removing" them.

yes im still using note 4. also using 2x galaxy s5.. all verizon redpocket 229$ a year.

The note 4 completes all my needs.. 5x3200mh batteries (external charger so never have to charge phone) i love it.

My issue is where do you go from the note 4? Galaxy s7 for 500? note 7 would be ideal. if i dont have to spend more than 500,
